Beretta Px4 spring/guiding rod replacement program

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been mentioned here -- I couldn't find any prior coverage. Beretta is providing a free recoil spring + guiding rod replacement for Px4 Compact that are affected by the feeding/extraction problems. Below is the link:

Beretta Customer Support

Beretta has identified a feeding problem that can occur with some Px4 Compact pistols when fired with some low and mid-pressure ammunition. The issue arises only in the Px4 Compact and does not affect the standard size Px4 pistol, nor the Px4 Subcompact. This feeding problem typically stops occurring after the pistol has been broken-in through repeated firing.

Beretta has developed a polished guide rod and recoil spring that corrects the ammunition situation and is available for any customer experiencing feeding problems. Not all Beretta Px4 Compact pistols are affected by this condition; most pistols currently incorporate this enhanced feature.

I have been dismayed at sporadic FTFs with most 115gr in my 9mm Compact, and my gunsmith suggested to replace the spring. Running a quick Google search turned up that link above.

You may already have the new spring. I wish I could show you what it looked like, but I'm at work right now and the Beretta site is blocked.

I went through the same things as you did, and it took about 800 rounds before the pistol functioned flawlessly. I also stored it with the slide locked to the rear, and for about a week, I spent an hour every day racking the slide while I watched TV. Now the pistol runs like a dream.

That's interesting. Certainly involving than I would expect from the breaking-in procedure! I should have thought of the storing with the slide locked trick... But as far as rounds go, I am actually up to 750 rounds now, but the FTFs continue to happen now and them.

What ammunition do you typically fire from yours?

I definitely do NOT have the new spring, since Beretta's website ask for you gun's serial # to confirm that you need it, and it accepted mine.

After three weeks since receiving the spring, I actually got to try it. Now the PX4 functions flawlessly, cycling without any problems even with the most questionable of ammunition I could obtain for the test -- Herter's aluminum cased (I still feel guilty about putting it into my gun).
