Am I the only one? Perhaps I just don't get it...

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who doesn't get the whole deal behind magpul. I mean, I don't think I've ever really seen anything they've made that I like. Perhaps I am speaking firearm blasphemy, but I just don't get it.

I mean, I don't see the point of the FMG9. It's not really THAT "concealable". It doesn't look inconspicuous in my opinion. Furthermore it's really just a glock with a clunky case. As for their AR parts, I don't see how they're any better than cheaper parts put out by other companies. I just do not understand the hype behind magpul.

I'm just curious if I'm the only one who feels this way, I mean, not everyone here can be a fan of Magpul, or am I the only one.

I beat the shit out of my guns.. and the parts that are on them..

my magpul parts have been great.. the new MOE+ is great with the rubber grip.. everything seems great quality..

also the mags for the price are really good..

the sling I just picked up.. also really nice..

I honestly have not owned one disappointing magpul accessory yet..

I do not personally like the MOE handguard but that is just because of how it feels in my hand..

I do not personally care for the sights they offer.. plastic sights are kind of sketchy to me..

but overall they are great inexpensive products.. what not to like..

I can understand how you might not like their products or care from them. Not everybody does. And certainly they make products that even Magpul fans don't care for. With that said, I'd hope you would be able to see why they do have an appeal to a LOT of people, for reasons like mentioned above, amongst others.

I like the Magpul handguards, since they are not completely covered in tacticool rails. I also like the look of the collapsible stock, because it doesn't look like a collapsible stock. Nothing annoys me more than having an ugly stock that could collapse, but because of our geography, cannot. What looks good to each of us is, afterall, subjective.

Vlad stated it very well.

To the OP - have you ever used any magpul products, or have hands on time? Initially the great thing about magpul was all of their products made perfect sense. They took what was standard issue and made it slightly better, and sold it at a lower price point. Magpul's, pmags, the CTR stock, the MIAD grip, and lately the MOE line are all excellent products for the price point.

That being said, I don't like their handguards either....

That's true. I don't like the idea of plastic sights honestly. Perhaps most of my dislike is superficial, however Reading various things online, people talk about magpul like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Also, I've always disliked adjustable stocks. Then again, at 5'7" it seems like fixed stocks are the perfect length for me.

I still hate the FMG9 though.

The last time anybody cared for the FMG9 (or whatever its called) was like 2005; same with the Masada (not the bastardized version).

But yes, as stated, innovative company that puts out high quality stuff for competitive prices.

I really like the Magpul products that I have used. MOE AR handgrips are my standard, the AR ACS stock is fantastic.. I have two on my rifles, and I also own a bunch of 20/15 pmags which have been great.

I don't personally see any issues with product quality. I can see how some people may not like the styling/feel, but that is according to each person's taste.

My AR is Magpul'd out. MOE Stock, MOE Pistol Grip, MOE Trigger Guard, MOE Hand Guard (with rails, added Illumination kit), AFG2, ASAP, BAD lever, RSA, and Rear Sight. Also have a bunch of mags.

It's good quality product. Magpul stuff is made in the USA. Their AR furniture is lightweight and strong. Ergonomically it fits me well.

Maybe I've been a little harsh on them. At the risk of sounding like a hipster, I tend to dislike stuff everyone raves about. (IE- my controversial statement to my friend that I like ELO better than the Beetles) or other stuff like that. Maybe I'll get a magpul piece, or a few mags for my AR build, and maybe it'll change my opinion.

You may be overly concerned that you're going to sound like a Mall Ninja. We do tend to like Magpul stuff :)

Haha, well if you know of what I want in my AR build, you probably realized I hate all things mall ninja. IE, my favorite rifle is the M1A. Plus I want nothing to do with a 16" barrel, gotta have that old school 20" one.

You're probably right though. I think it's usually the fans of stuff that turns me off of it.

The Magpul FMG-9 was a design exercise more than anything else. Why is some gadget-gun from back in 2008 still bugging you, LOL??

Like everyone else in the thread, ('cept YOU) I have some of their stuff on my rifles.

I've got big hands. The MIAD grip with the interchangeable backstraps is a God send - no more squeezing the trigger with the second knuckle on my index finger!

Their mags are just great. I can't imagine buying another overpriced, crappy aluminum mag EVER again.

The CTR is pretty neat - even unpinned, it doesn't rattle around on the extension.

I'm going to try their plastic BUIS (BUPS? HAHA!) on my next AR. They're pretty cheap, so if they don't work out I'll just spring for the Troy's.

Someone else mentioned the Magpul iPhone case. I was actually thinking about getting an iPhone just to have an excuse to buy the damn cool lookin' case. If the iPhone 4S was a 4G phone I would have....stupid 3G iPhones...wtf??

So in short ...yeah ..... it's just you mate ;)

I'm also a big Magpul fan. My AR sports MOE stock, grip, trigger guard, and handguards, ASAP, AFG2, rear MBUS, and PMAGs. They offer great quality, excellent price, and American made products. I think you really need to try some of their things out before you knock them. Plus i think their products look great as well. Here's a pic of mine:

I also own the iPhone case...it's a great product as well. Love the OD green and it does a good job protecting my phone. I'm still trying to figure out what's not to like about Magpul.

Just sounds like you prefer the "classic" look and feel. No harm in that, and makes sense you don't prefer the "new-fangled" look. Kind of like how some guys prefer classic styles in motorcycles or cars over newer.

I'm guessing you like this:

Not quite, but better than a Magpul gun. Thinking about it, I'm not even a huge fan ot ARs, which is probably why I'm so damn picky XD. I think it's mostly appearance wise, the magpul stuff has such a goofy look I think.

Then again, I love wood and steel on a rifle. ..

Magpul is an odd bird, they appeal to the mall ninja crowd and to those that care how their guns perform, are affordable, their stuff works, sometimes their stuff is pure genius and even the stuff that is "meh" its "meh" because it doesn't do something you need or like not because it doesn't work. Basically they hit the sweet spot were their gear is very usable, tough, cheap, and looks good. What's not to like? You actually have to wonder how people like Tapco stay in business with Magpul around

Even their sights aren't bad at all, although I prefer sights mounted on the barrel upfront so their front sight is "meh" to me but the rear is very well thought out and quite rugged. On of my biggest angst inducing design choices in rear sights is dual apertures that I don't get to control which one is "active" when I fold the rear sight down. As far as I can tell they only ones who do it right are magpul and Troy at a SIGNIFICANT price difference.

Troy's force to to the big aperture. It's magpul, arms, and diamondhead that give you a choice as far as I can tell.

Searched this forum but didn't see anything on this yet.
Has anyone played with the Magpul DAKA grid organizers yet? Seems nifty but anyone has one that can provide feedback on them? Losta vidoos online. Yer thoughts
I know some will say $130 for Styrofoam? I guess it's just the modularity that appeals to me. Got a Pelican 1720 for Christmas and was looking at the closed foam option and ran across this too.
