Nano opinions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was looking at a Beretta Nano today. It felt pretty good in my hand and I know Beretta generally manufactures good products. I was wondering if anyone actually fired one and what their opinions are on it. What I'm looking for is a concealed carry weapon for when I travel out of state and maybe one day in NJ (wishful thinking). Also just want a small gun.

A few members here own or owned one at some point. When I fired it, it shot well, nice CCW firearm. I don't have anything negative to say about it.

Other alternative that I really love, the Springfield Armory XD-S in 45 ACP.

On which?

Actually, the XD-S in 45 ACP was not much worse, and possibly a little bit more .... predictable and consistent, over the Beretta Nano... from what I recall... however they were both WORLDS better than the Ruger LCP and Lc9

I just got an XDS from a dealer on Gunbroker for 599. With shipping and my local transfer fees it was still under 670, and it's a Bi-Tone model which I've seen going for $700 and up. So the price was ok I guess.

Love the gun- I'm very accurate with it and the recoil is no worse than, say, a Glock G26. It's designed to absorb a lot of recoil and muzzle flip. It's a good gun and very concealable. The only drawback is the 5 round mag.

The XDs appears to be experiencing a price spike...availability is spotty and that will wear off, BUT....the XDs is a 45. For those of us who want that, well, a guy on another forum had a couple of big dogs trying to kill kittens on his porch and they took a few 9 mm rounds and ran off. You can get a black XDs for mid 5's out the door. That's still a hundred bucks, but for me the caliber is worth it.

I have a Nano - It's a nice gun. The trigger pull on it is crisp and consistent. It's a long trigger pull but nothing you can't get over without practice. I prefer having a CCW gun like this, as you're a lot less likely to have an AD.

The recoil on the Nano isn't too harsh. It's noticeable but not as harsh as some other pocket guns.

The reason the recoil is less harsh is because the Nano is a relatively heavy gun. The subframe is steel, which gives it the heft. However, when the .40 S&W conversion comes out, you can convert to it fully using the same frame.

Another plus side to this is that you can shoot +P ammo without worrying about it.

If you're ever up my way, let me know - I'll let you try mine.

Krdshrk, Thank you for the review of your Nano. I'm pretty confident the Nano will be my next gun. For those who recommended the xds 45, I'm right there with ya on the power but considering the price and the ammo cost and also i'm suppose to meet up with a forum member today to buy his 5.56 upper. The Nano is just more affordable for me at this point. Your opinions didn't fall on deaf ears. It is a pistol i'd like to purchase in the future.

It is a pocket carry gun... it will not be a typical range toy, I would not worry about ammo costs. =) put a few boxes down range to make sure the gun functions fine, and then bring it out every so often.

Shoot them both.

Have you looked at the M&P Shield? It's a nice little gun, recoil is very manageable and it's pretty accurate for such a small gun.

I have one if you'd like to try it out sometime. I'm considering selling it just because I shoot lefty and have hit the mag release a couple of times while shooting it, which doesn't give me 100% reliability, something I would need for a CCW gun. I think price wise it's inline with the Nano. PM me if you'd like to try it out.
