Shane45 807 Posted October 12, 2014 Does it make someone less qualified? I see a lot of judgements with no grounds Yes it does make them less qualified, if gunfighting is what your looking to learn.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted October 12, 2014 So if someone teaches the Delaware conceal carry class at the cabelas in that state it makes them unqualified to teach other classes?
Shane45 807 Posted October 12, 2014 Shawn, I believe you are missing the points being presented. There is a consideration for what is being taught. If teaching basic safe gun handling, this is likely within the scope of an NRA instructor and what he has been taught to teach. Same for someone instructed on teaching basic CCW courses. But it starts to become a different thing entirely when these type of instructors continue to rack up other courses and then start getting the idea they can start teaching advanced combat training techniques because they have been to classes on the subject. There are levels of trainers and training all the way up the ladder. As I have said on this forum before, there are training situations in the military where you will NOT find any cadre that do not have actual combat experience. If I want to learn some technical aspects of shooting, a grand master competitor may be a good teacher but he is not likely going to be able to teach me aspects of shooting related directly to combat or gunfighting. It comes down to truly understanding the subject matter. I may be able to sit in enough classes to be able to teach the lesson on nuclear fusion, it doesn't mean I truly understand the subject matter. The key is understanding where you are on that ladder, what you want from the class, and if the instructor is matched to your needs. For most here, Im sure a lot of instructors are fine. The point I think others are making here is some instructors are reaching above where they are on said ladder. Yes the only way up above a certain point on that ladder is actual gunfighting experience.
pjd832 146 Posted October 12, 2014 As usual Shane45 has eloquently put what I was trying to say....and I said if you learn something/have fun that's good....but I have a problem with people using logos and a list of random class participation list as some sort of resume to lead people to believe they are qualified to teach skills they don't actually posess or fully understand from "taking a class" from someone possibly that did the same thing they are now doing....but glad to hear you enjoyed it ....as that's the main thing
