Home Carry (Pistol) Storage

Recommended Posts

I cant see carrying the gun around the house under normal situations. If you live such a life or in such a place Change/move.

Then this can be you.

Millburn is a prety affluent area, or do you think this woman was living "such a life" to warrant the beating she got?

Ya know...I live in a pretty affluent area and have to laugh when folks talk about alarms and home defense. My house is in "oh...that side of town" and I joke that the people that live in my neighborhood go to your neighborhood to rob them! (joking) but if I had to worry about HD so much that I felt I needed to have my weapon near by at all times, trust me I'd move....or carry all the time while home.
Criminals are getting bolder. A home break in is in many cases, instantaneous. You wont have time to look for where you put your weapon. Or call the police. Just react. A hand to hand self defense course might be better suited if you're that paranoid. I'd hate to think what a over zealous DA would do if he found out you "planned" to be attacked. And you better only fire one shot if you use your weapon. Otherwise its premeditated. Oh? and you had HP ammo? Knowing that ammo is more deadly? And you had your weapon modified so it was easier to pull the trigger on this defenseless man? The way this state (and country) is heading? You doubt it happening? Think again.
I do have "things" around my home to ward off an attacker if necessary. But nothing that couldn't be found in any home. I'm sorry if this approach goes against what some think, but using my weapon is the LAST thing I would use in New Jersey. Plus beating the SOB senseless with a bat would be so much more satisfying the just putting a bullet in him. ;)
The other thing to consider is actually pulling the trigger on another human being. Most would, at least, hesitate. Or if they didn't, will never be the same. All the training in the world will not get you ready for what comes next. Talk a big game. Till it happens.
Just my opinion. To each his own.

Ummm ive been all over Bridgewater. I think your definition of "that side of town" is a little off. There is no section of Bridgewater that is that bad. Also please provide proof that firing more than one shot is considered premeditated. so you mean to tell me that if someone say strung out on angel dust (PCP) breaks into your home and attacks you, takes your bat (or whatever else you have to "ward off" an attacker) so you fire a shot and he does not stop. your telling me that you would not shoot again because your scared your going to be charged? come on man! you always always keep shooting until the threat is stopped completely! I really would suggest keeping your dangerous recommendations to yourself.

Every situation is different. And yes that could happen. Most break-ins are drug addited punks. Not armed..Looking to cop something they can sell for quick cash.  I see you're in Flemington. When was the last time you heard of someone "strung out on angel dust"  around there. If I lived in an area that I would need to worry about that...I'd deal with it differently...

This is New Jersey...Do you doubt these liberal DAs wouldn't try anything to make a gun owner the bad guy?

Should I put on my flame proof suit now?

And I did say to each their own.

um I guess you did not hear about the murder here last year by a guy on angle dust and special k. Stabbed his best friend 40 times and smashed his skull in with a 25 lb dumbell. So bad shit happens in every town regardless of how safe you think it is. And if your wondering I home carry all the time and I don't have any kids yet so I also keep guns stashed around the home. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

Did you post that one in the, "No Firearms Used..." thread?

Using any weapon or any object as a weapon is going to get you a trip downtown if you need to use it. There's a reason cops are required to carry hollow points and its not so they can be more deadly. As long as you're not carrying RIP or something else silly and don't empty 3 magazines into someone, half of them while they're already on the ground it shouldn't be an issue. Of course whether you use a bat, gun or pencil the shtbag or next of kin will likely sue you in any case.

If someone is stealing my tv, I'll hold them at gunpoint if I can and if not that's why I have insurance. If they know I'm home and break in, they're obviously not there to do me any favors and its going to be ugly one way or the other.

If you want to be really paranoid hang out and have beers with your local cops, its always eye opening to find out the actual level of crime in your town. What makes the news is a tiny fraction of what actually goes on.

One of the surprising things is the amount of people into child p0rn. They're everywhere. A little more well known, but still not often discussed, human trafficking.

Or try monitoring the radio frequency of your local PD. I was shocked to hear how many Narcan (for heroin overdoses) runs my little, quiet town had. And where there's junkies, there's crime.

who are you kidding.  that carpet is definitely from pottery barn.   affluent areas get carpets from restoration hardware.   and that TV is so 1080p.  4k is where it's at.   millburn must be a step above irvington,.....at best

so you purposely give yourself a tactical disadvantage out of fear of an over zealous prosecutor.

Unlike most Americans, I have pulled the trigger and sent other humans to meet their 72 virgins...and I would not hesitate to pull it again if I feel the situation dictates...whether it's in my home, during a retail robbery or any other situation that leaves me no other viable option for protection of myself or others.

First let me say thank you for your service. And with that goes that most other Americans have not ever had to pull the trigger against another human being. Shooting at a paper target is a lot different than shooting at a person. Even if they may be threatening you or a loved one. I think most Americans would hesitate since they are not trained as our armed forces are.

What do you guys recommend as a secondary storage for home carry? I've heard some use a portable safe and bring from room to room etc.

Not looking to holster carry, or on person. Just safe, place to keep it for easy access when not stored in the primary storage area.

I found this site http://www.handgunsaferesearch.com/ pretty interesting when I started to research everything firearms related, specifically lockboxes and pistol safes.

The guy that runs the site shows the major flaws in many common safes as a way to kinda bash the industry and specifically CA DOJ approval process. Anyways check out, I basically made my decision because of it.

I don't even have a gun yet (Walther PPQ 5" in the works ;)) but ordered my safe today actually, the Vaultek VT20, because they were the ONLY company that took this guys criticism and discovered flaws and quickly revised and upgraded their safes to make them better. You can find great video reviews of the Vaultek's on Youtube by several of the big firearms/shooting sites as well.

FYI if you buy directly from Vaultek as I did there is a discount code "greenlight10" for 10% through the end of June 2017.

Good Luck!

i definitely recommend the bolted down safe somewhere in the bedroom. You'll always know where it is and will have it when most vulnerable. You won't have time to react in most other situations.

I had a shelf collapse once in my living room while I was dead asleep. It took me a few secs to wake up and get oriented, then dozens more secs for me to process the noise and realize this may be a home intruder. It was easily a full 1-2 mins before I had my pistol out.

i had a buddy who woke up to get a drink of water in the middle of the night. His bulldog lazily walked to the kitchen with him. On the way, he stood face to face with an intruder who was carrying a hammer. All 3 were in a state of shock. The intruder just stared at the dog, then ran out. My buddy said he didn't reach for anything and didn't really move at all. Oddly, the dog just stared at the intruder as well. And you can talk about training, combat exp, etc. This buddy saw a lot of combat and was shot in the butt by 7.62 a la Forrest Gump. He still woke up disoriented and not at his full wits.
