Lalo 13 Posted February 26, 2015 Going to be swapping out the sights on a couple of pistols and would rather not risk marring the new sights by installing them with a punch in case I want to sell them. Anyone have a sight pusher I can borrow that would work on an M&P? Located in Parsippany. Thanks!
Bully 749 Posted March 8, 2015 I have a JMT sight pusher. PM me if you want to use it. Christopher
DirtyDigz 1,811 Posted March 8, 2015 Lalo, I've got one near Morristown but won't be back home until Monday evening.
Lalo 13 Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I'll be swapping out the sight on my Shield this week and will reach out when I head out to sight them in. I have a cheap RST rear sight tool but I'm not sure it will work since the M&P sights are known to be difficult to adjust.
Shocker 150 Posted March 17, 2015 I have a JMT also but I don't remember my Shield being particularly hard to adjust. You just have to make sure you have the tiny-ass hex wrench to loosen the set screw before you begin I know for a fact that I did my full size M&P with only a brass punch. Lalo 13 Posted March 20, 2015 Hey Guys, thanks for the responses. I was finally able to get the sights removed and installed using a couple of brass punches. Not only were the old sights hard to remove (rear sights harder than the front sights), but then the new REAR sights just did not want to slide in all the way. I ended up lapping/polishing the rear sights on both the M&P9 & Shield and that made them slide in without having to damage them with a brass punch and hammer. They still took some effort but I didn't want to remove too much material from the bottom of the sight otherwise they'd be too loose. I still haven't sighted them in but when I do, if my cheap rear sight tool doesn't do the job, I may reach out to you to try a different pusher. Thanks all! KyleKap19 3 Posted February 2, 2016 I'm doing this same exact thing -- got the rear off (MAN WAS THAT ON THERE!) but dont want to risk marring it up on the install. I have some of the angled brass punches inbound from brownells but not sure if a sight pusher would do any better than whacks. What did you use to file down the new sights?
