Tractor rifle arrived....

When the CMP announced the release of the IHC M1 Garands, I decided to throw my hat into the ring.  I put in for a "Gap Letter" receiver, but I did not make the cut.  i got a email asking if I would like a Field grade with an "LMR Barrel".  I've been following some of the other forums, and read where the only part on the rifle that was "IHC" was the receiver.  I didn't really care either way, I've always wanted a "Tractor" rifle.

 

George at Oakridge Gun service ($32.10 for transfer and NICS) called me the other day to let me know the rifle was in.

 

Lets just say I am extremely happy with what the CMP sent me....

Stock was nothing special, looks like overseas replacement walnut stock.  No markings what so ever.  Very dirty, rear hand guard and stock match, front hand guard is new replacement wood from the CMP.

The gas cylinder and front sight match "IHC" profile.  The only part that is not IHC is the bolt.  12SA heat lot A8W (Nov 1942 only)

So i thought the stock was gonna be walnut.  Not so, I think it might be birch?  The rear hand guard is definitely walnut

Birch stains great with leather dye, many regular oil based wood stains leave birch looking splotchy. Nice gun

I received mine last year around this time. Service grade LMR barrel, got to love CMP! Good luck with your new rifle.

Stock work is all complete.  This was an unfinished Boyds stock that I found in my garage (purchased in 2009), funny how you find things you forgot about when you're actually looking for something else.

 

Finish is 7 coats of danish oil, and beeswax / turp mix was applied.
