302w 83 Posted November 9, 2015 This sounds ridiculous. I was at the Split Rock gunshow awhile back, and a "bring back M60" was for sale at around 30k. How does something like that happen? Considering it had to be registered and such I don't buy the story.

I find it bizarre that someone got ahold of an MG that was probably not available on the civvie market.
GRIZ 3,369 Posted November 9, 2015 I doubt it is truly a "bring back". Prior to 1986 one could acquire a new M60 or at least a receiver. There are legal M60s on the civilian market. One of the NFA price guides on the Internet shows M60s going for 30 to 50k depending on configuration and manufacturer.
mipafox 438 Posted November 9, 2015 Yes. I find it bizarre that someone got ahold of an MG that was probably not available on the civvie market. Are you kidding? They are all over the place. $30K is a reasonable price nowadays. "bring back" is actually the most suspicious part to me. There are at least 6 M134 Miniguns in the registry (I think there are more), 1 "Sixpack" 5.56, and at least two (I think there are more) MK19s. There are M240s ("MAG's"), at least one M249 (Minime) and possibly more, almost everything that existed in 1986 is there. Heck, shit that DIDN'T exist in 1986 is in there, such as the Glock 18 (in the form of converted 17s). Stuff gets a little more rare if it was made outside the US after 1968 GCA and subsequent import bans. Most of that stuff started life as dealer samples or police inventory but was wisely registered when May 1986 was approaching.

Originally I called BS but you explained... Now was that a conversion or an original? If an original what was the origin?
302w 83 Posted November 9, 2015 Interesting. So that particular M60 was likely a sample, demo weapon, friend of General Dynamics, etc? I know you used to be able to willy-nilly buy an M16 if you got your NFA ducks in a row, but an M60 probably wasn't on the shelf too.

If an original what was the origin? The G18 did not come out until after the 1986 ban. Obviously, there are zillions of them out there owned by SOTs. There are so few transferable converted G17s that some doubt their existence. There is one in PA. I know the person that owns it and I knew the FFL that last sold it. WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 358 Posted November 9, 2015 There are probably a few hundred if not 1,000-2,000 transferable M60's for civvie ownership in Free America. You can read more about how they came onto the NFA registry here: http://www.machinegunpriceguide.com/html/m60_part_1.HTM The "bring back" is dubious because that implies it's stolen U.S. Property. It could be DEWAT (deactivated war trophy) made reactivated (REWAT) or it passed to a P.D. or Nuclear power plant and then into civvie ownership. I love the pig. It has such a distinctive sound and cadence.
