Wireless security systems?

Recommended Posts

The worst a normal person would have to worry about is a "jamming" of the wireless network, but simplisafe will trigger the alarm if it senses that its being jammed. If someone is hacking into your network, well lets just say they are probably savvy enough to get through any home security system..

Mahwah had burglaries where the perps just came and cut the phone lines in the wealthy riovista area.

That's what my thought process is pretty much in line with. I'm not worried about a professional thief coming in to steal my multi-million diamond collection...because I don't have one LOL. I want to be alerted ASAP that some dirtbag entered my home for a crime of opportunity so to speak.

For those that don't know. Simplisafe allows you to designate any sensor with "Home" or "Away" settings which is pretty cool. While in "Home" I can have my front and back door armed, but my slider door to my balcony disarmed.

That should be standard for all security systems. Away should arm everything, but home will have the motion sensors deactivated and any "zones" that you choose. There should also be a bypass function for open widows.

Yeah, you may have that set to default in home or away. I have something similar in an instant mode while I am home. But what you are talking about is bypass. You associated bypass of certain sensors with specific modes. Also, when you first set up your sensors, you assign them as active or follow. Follow will not go off when it's in a mode you use when you're home, usually motion. That's the basic programming.

I'm learning :p My system should be in by the end of the week, but since I work for the wireless industry and iPhone 7 launches on Friday...I probably won't be looking at it till next Tuesday when I'm off.

I received it Thursday, this is a crazy weekend at work for me so I won't be actually doing anything with it until Tuesday when I'm off. I basically only opened the box to make sure everything was there. I also took a look at Mt Olive ordinance on whether I need an Alarm Permit and from how I'm reading it, it seems only businesses need it but I'm going to call and make sure. Other than that I won't have a review for a couple weeks of using it. It's basically a peel and stick install from what I've seen so far.

Installed it about an hour ago.  Also called Mt. Olive and no alarm permit needed. I also informed my complex that we were installing a security system and they said we were free to do so if we felt it was needed. Apparently no one else around me has one because they had no policy or procedure for it lmao. We set a code specifically for maintenance if they need to enter when we're not here in case of emergency.

The main sensors I had to screw into the wall or molding since the 3M tape didn't hold. The small magnetic sensors that go on the doors to meet up with the main ones hold just fine with the 3M tape. The alarm doesn't trigger until the two pieces are 2" away from eachother which gives some play on where you place everything.

Tested everything and it's all working fine for now. I'll give an update in a week or so. I will say the key fob they give you free is really nice except there's no "Home" mode button on it. Only away, off and panic. I'd like a home button for pure laziness.

Just a suggestion...maybe delete from here the details of what sensors you have and how they are set.  If someone wanted to find your house using the personal information available on this board, I suspect they could.

Not too worried but heeded your suggestion.

Can't where I live, I will when we move.

So everything was working great all last night. Today has been non stop fighting with the keypad saying it's "Out of range" I've done as much troubleshooting as I could before and after work. I have it fixed for the 4th time today and I'm probably going to have to call them on Tuesday my next day off to see what else I can do or if they will send a replacement.

That's the biggest gripe with them. The Keiypad saying out of range from the base station. I had to put my base station behind the couch to get it closer to work. Besides that I am 100% happy with mine.

I think I have it working now. My wife had moved the base station earlier in the day while I was at work. When I came home it still said out of range. I took the batteries out and put them back in on the keypad and ever since then everything is working great. I think it's finally fixed. Let's hope lol
