FFL Modifying Mags on Pistol Purchase

Recommended Posts

I've been looking to buy a pistol, it is available in 10-round and 16-round varieties from the manuf

The Gun Dealer/FFL recommended to me has indicated that he will order the 16-round variety and modify the mags so they can only accept 15 rounds.

He indicates this will by NJ legal and all be done before I take possession of the firearm.

Is this legit?

100% Legal.  We have forum vendors here who modify magazines and block magazines all the time.

"only legit if they are permanently modified."

So, suppose miracles happen, and our great and benevolent New Jersey society AHEM(couldn't find a suitably sarcastic emoticon) deems quantity of rounds loaded  into a magazine becomes a non-issue.

We are then stuck with these reduced standard capacity magazines, or are put in the position of needing to purchase new ones?

great, just great,,,,,,,,,,,,

I would say that would fall onto you, i don't think the FFL would be liable for what happens to them after they leave his hands.

I disagree. Technically the FFL would be responsible for the restricted items they are selling. If its illegal to own it's illegal to sell, the FFL would need to show if the user modified them.

Yes, but you should be happy to buy new ones if your freedoms are being given back.  However, a dose of reality more likely you'll be pinning them again to 10 or less in 2018.

Those are purchases I would gladly make.  Unpinned/unmodified mags are a lot cheaper and plentiful.

I would gladly sell my 15 rounders to Coloradians

Instead of pinning, they'll be hiding in their own little pvc bunker somewhere unmentionable! :-}
