High Exposure 5,661 Posted March 2, 2016 Well shit... That must be new. They recently had a smoking sale on plates and they only required a notarized form, no LEO or .mil creds. Sorry about that. Doing a little research and found that SKD is running a nice sale on their site (their hard armor is made by Tencate which by all accounts makes a solid product). http://www.skdtac.com/SKD-Armor-10-x-12-Level-IV-Stand-Alone-Plate-p/amr.905.htm Their Armor sales policy is good to go as well for non Leo/mil - http://www.skdtac.com/skd_tactical_body_armor_policy_a/165.htm SKD WILL SELL BODY ARMOR ONLY TO THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS: Active Duty US Law Enforcement and Active Duty US Military personnel. A photograph of LE or Military ID must be submitted. Alternatively, you may submit a memorandum on branch/agency letterhead signed by an authorized official in your CoC affirming that you are Active Duty Law Enforcement or Active Duty Military and a copy of State-issued Driver's License. DOD/DOS Contractors with a current Letter of Authority for use of firearms. A photograph of your DOD/DOS Contractor ID and LOA must be submitted. Body Armor Sales will be processed for the duration of your LOA. Law Abiding US Citizens over the age of 21, with no criminal or mental health history. The following must be provided: A copy of State-issued Driver's License A copy of a Concealed Weapons Carry Permit (IL FOID acceptable), or Original Criminal Background Check letter from your local Police Department (download pdf below) Original Signed & Notarized End-User Affidavit (download pdf below)
n4p226r 105 Posted March 2, 2016 What would be the issue if a LEO ordered any of this for a lowly civilian?

Unless out of state is acceptable.
High Exposure 5,661 Posted March 2, 2016 There is an "or" there You can use the linked .pdf for a good conduct letter from your local PD.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted March 2, 2016 Not everyone wants to let their PD know that they're purchasing Body Armor... lol
n4p226r 105 Posted March 2, 2016 Now I'm trying to determine if there is a civilian application to owning this, that is unless your home range is the bullethole in Belleville
High Exposure 5,661 Posted March 2, 2016 Not everyone wants to let their PD know that they're purchasing Body Armor... lol Well, in that case, I don't know what to tell you. Shop someplace else maybe? You think PDs keep a log of who buys armor? C'mon. It's a good conduct letter, it can be for many things, not just buying armor. Anyway... It also looks like an IL FID card works, I bet a NJ FID card would as well.

n4p226r 105 Posted July 10, 2016 So I've done w bunch more research and it seems that there are no standards for m193 and m855 which is what I'd call the threats of want to be most likely to protect for. They really need to update the NIJ dtandards
Alex V 99 Posted July 14, 2016 I have the BulletProofMe Lvl4 standalone SAPI plates in a Crye JPC. Its pretty comfortable and the price for the plates was not outrageous. Thankfully I have not tested their bullet resistance but there are plenty of test videos online and it is NIJ rated. Only time I ever actually needed it was in a CQB class. I will test out running the PC in a carbine class in September to evaluate it it works for me. IMHO best way way to find out how gear works for you it to try it out.
