New Purchase.... Ideas?

Recommended Posts

Currently selling my XDS 4.0 in 9mm (listed on the MEWE app), as I just bought an Shield Performance center in 9mm, and since I don't have a need for two small carry guns so I am selling the XDS.

Currently have two valid permits and though I don't need to buy anything, it seems like a waste to let to the permits go to waste. Here is my current collection, all purchased in the last 3 years-

Glock 17 Gen 4

Glock 23 Gen 4

Sig p226 in 22LR and conversion slide for 9mm

Shield performance center 9mm

Colt trooper mark 4 (1970s, was my dads old service revolver)

Ruger GP100 in 357

Ruger SR1911 in 45

M&P pro series in 9mm

XDS 4.0 in 9mm (currently looking to sell)

previously owned an M&P 40c but sold that....

What is my collection missing? Looking into CZ 75B or CZ 75 P01....

Thought or opinions?

I was thinking that, but wanted something a big different.

That's why I was thinking a CZ, larger range gun, that is all metal and hammer fired.

I like my Ruger, and have shot really nice 1911s, but don't really think I need to buy another.

Maybe a nice 1911

Baby eagle, haven't thought about that....

I shot a beretta years ago, not sure if it was 92FS or M9, but I was not a fan.... Baby eagle is interesting

If you go the CZ route, I highly recommend the CZ75-SP-01. Its a tack driver and very well made.

I agree.

I went to Monmouth Arms yesterday, looking between an 85 and a 75 stainless... and Steve just got a SP-01 in. Didn't like the ambidextrous slide release on the 85, but holding the SP-01 really sold me on that. If you can buy one, I say buy it. [emoji106]

I know, I frequency Steve's place whenever I can. That's why I brought up the CZ 75B or the 75 P01, I see he has both in stock.

Since I am looking for a range piece, ergonomics and accuracy are key, and from what people are saying about CZ online, they say CZ are very accurate.

Just looking for what others have to say.

That's two people whom suggested a Sigp220,I love my 226 so I imagine it being the same, which is glorious .....

I do want to keep the new purchase in 9mm though....

Well if you really want to get something I highly recommend the Walther 5" PPQ M2 in 9mm.  I like it even better than my CZ's.  Anyone that has tried mine, many owning VP9's and 320's have immediately said that will be their next purchase.

But the bigger question is why are you playing the permit game that is motivating you to buy stuff just because you have permits?  I get 4 permits every six months that way I always have one in hand and feel no pressure to use one because it is going to expire.

I have handled a PPQ before and like it, but when I went to purchase the 5 inch version last year it wasn't available, so I got a 5 inch M&P pro series, and with some minor work,( new striker block and new sear from Apex) the gun is awesome.

The permits were actually meant for "family" guns. My grandfather was a retired NYS trooper, and when he recently passed away my father (also a retired officer) said I could have the two pistols they found.

But, my father decided to keep them for himself(for now), while I had already put in for 2 permits.

As stated, I don't need to buy anything, and might not buy anything.... Just looking for some options.... Buying something would also depend on selling my XDS ....

Have one 45-

SR 1911-

I know it considered an entry level 1911,but something about the look of it is very appealing to me ,that's why I picked it up....

Everyone needs something in 45acp. How about a laser guided shotgun firing 45acp revolver such as the S&W Governor :)

I just watched a bunch of videos in the Rock Island 9mm 1911s. I always told myself my next 1911 would be in stainless but now that RIA got rid of the roll marks I think I want one of theirs

That is what is so nice about the PPQ, it is just about perfect out of the box.  The trigger is absolutely amazing, with great reset.  Apex makes a drop in trigger for it, but I don't see the value in it.  The Apex trigger has a shorter pull and reset but is much harder to pull (more pounds force).  I highly recommend he PPQ to anyone, I like it much better than my Glock G34 which has a bunch of trigger and spring work I've done on it.  The only thing I have changed on the PPQ is the sights, which I have replaced with Dawson Fiber optics on the front and their Charger rear.  I love Dawson sights, and if you replace with a set they will guarantee that POA matches POI.  If it does not they will send you different height front sights until you get it the way you want it at no cost.

I will keep the PPQ in mind, most shops/venders usually have the 4 inch version in stock, I have never seen a 5 inch though.

For some reason my mind is drawing me to an all metal gun (if I get one at all)

Goodness can you change that avatar? Every time I try to post in a thread you're in I get stuck staring at it for 10 minutes and forget what the topic was--nevermind what I was going to say. ;)

Here is a picture of the PPQ, the 5" has the ported slide (not the barrel) and is legal for production in USPSA or SSP in IDPA.  It has adjustable rear sights too, but I like fiber optics better.  When I got mine it was $620 with free shipping, seems to have gone up some since then.  I generally like metal as well, but this thing really rocks.  A friend was raving about it and told me he was going to buy one when he got some permits.  I told him I was going to buy it and put two boxes ammo through it and if I did not love it he could buy it at my cost.  The next day I called him and told him he would have to find his own :)

Went to the range last night (garden state shooting center) and after my session, held a lot the firearms suggested last night.

Sig 220- wow- felt great.... But, at the top of my budget, and not sure I want to spend that much, and I want to keep it in 9mm

Held a PPQ and VP9- both are very ergonomic and comfortable feeling.....

Didn't like the "wings" on the VP9- and not a fan of the mag release

No real negatives about the PPQ, but looks a bit top heavy with a higher bore axis... How's the muzzle flip?

I am also drawn to berettas, held the 92fs and M9a1, no real complaints about them- except, I don't like the "open" slide - just a personal thing, and then I remember shooting one years ago, felt great, shot it like crap..... But it was all metal, which I liked.....

They did have a CZ 75B- and as hickok45 says, it fit like a glove, but, seems a little long in my hand. Bore axis seemed really low too, which would make it greats to shoot.

Any shops or FFLs in the area have a compact CZ or 75 p01?

If you want something different from what you have, the most different would be an FN FiveSeven or an RIA .22 TCM 1911.

You could also pick up a .41, .44, .454 Casull, or .500 if you want to go in the other direction. For all of the rampaging moose and elephants running around Jersey lately. Or, because, hell yeah.

I know the SR1911 isn't a great gun, but, for some reason when I was looking for an entry level 1911, there was something about the look of it that makes me love it.....

At the range last night I did "fondle" a kimber commander size 1911 and it was appealing.....

Must Watch Video 8 Seconds Faster
8 seconds faster because “Smooth is Fast”. If you watch the video and keep track of the time, you’ll see that this shooter, C.S. (our shooter in the drill) is about 8 seconds faster than the majority of the other shooters. Listen to how long gunfire from other shooters continue after she completes her drill.
Becoming a fast and accurate shooter, is a combination of acquiring skills and understanding efficient human movement. Speed and accuracy does not have to comprise safety, it should augment it. Learning to shoot fast and accurately is an acquired and appreciated skill. It takes time, instruction, practice and the development of skill to acquire it; and it will depreciate if it not maintained.

Hello to all, Its been a long time since I purchased a handgun (30 years or so) and I'm finding conflicting info so I would like to find out how everything works. When I went to my local PD they gave me a package of stuff and said I had to be fingerprinted first. I have had my FID since 1978 and was fingerprinted then. When I moved to the town I live in now (Raritan Boro in 1998) I changed my address with no problem but 2 years or so later my wallet was stolen and my FID was in my wallet. When I went back to the PD they gave me a little trouble and made me reapply and I ended up having to go to court but the judge granted my request on appeal I was fingerprinted again at this time. I made the appointment to get fingerprinted but got a call from the police dept saying I did not need to get finger printed so I cancelled my appointment. Now in searching on the internet to make sure everything was correct I thought I saw something that said you have to be fingerprinted every time you purchase a handgun in NJ , I need to know if this is true so I can make sure I have done everything I can to ensure a good decision with least possible wait. Another question is  there a one month wait on purchasing in NJ? If anyone can give me the up to date requirements I would be very grateful
