In regards to legality of long guns

Are there ANY restrictions on bolt-action rifles?  I am looking into buying an M40A5 (USMC modded Remington 700).

You sure about that?  I believe there are NO limits on magazine capacities for NON-semiautomatic firearms (as long as the magazine can't be also used in a semiautomatic firearm).

If the magazine fits a semi auto it may not hold more than 15 rounds that it can continuously feed into said semi auto. If it only fits a bolt action there is no capacity limit.

IIRC there are some 223 BA rifles that will take AR magazines.

You are all correct the magazine must fit a semi auto. As there are no over 15 rd magazines made to fit a 700 action it's a moot point.

Sadly, that won't save you. Because it's an AR mag, if it holds more than 15 rounds it's verboten. Just because it will also feed a bolt action is irrelevant. That fact that it will continuously feed a semi auto the mag is illegal.

 

NB. It's the mag on its own that is illegal, not the gun/mag combination that you possess.

I'm not into bolt rifles, but that's a nice looking gun. I'm glad I don't have 4500 bucks to blow! And probably close to the same for glass?
