Has anyone else here trained with them?

I'm taking the ride up there next week for their two day Defensive Shotgun class:

https://www.sigsaueracademy.com/productdisplay/defensive-shotgun

As I've noted elsewhere, I'm not big on long drives (it's about four hours), but I'm not finding much else that's close to home.

I was hoping for something more advanced, but they don't have any of those scheduled, and as HE has said, it's a good

idea to keep going back to the basics.

I'm looking forward to a couple of days of shotgunning.  I'll be sure to file an AAR.

Awesome. Looking forward to the AAR.

I almost went up there for a Jeff Gonzales/Trident Concepts course but the training Gods were against me.

Exeter is a good resource and a good location for major talent to come down and teach.

A wise man once told me that there were no "expert" gunfighters. Just men that executed the basics of gun handling, on demand (which is much different than on command), faster and more accurately than their opponents.

I didn't train there, but I did take the two day Sig Armorer's class. The best part was sitting in the parking lot, eating my lunch, listening to the rifle fire cascading through the trees.

Food goes better with a smile.

P.S. Browsing through the (old) Sig Sauer Store gave me palpitations.

AAR

I was up there last Wednesday and Thursday, 5/25 and 5/26.  Weather was quite warm, up into the 80's.  I had been warned about large class sizes at SSA, but there were only three of us in the class, a retired military guy who was going to be traveling to Alaska and wanted to be proficient with a shotgun in case he encountered any grizzlies; a federal agent (customs enforcement, I believe) who has had a lot of handgun training, but wanted to be up

to speed with his SG; and yours truly, a 60's something dentist.

I linked the class curriculum in my initial post.  The first morning was a couple of hours of classroom, mostly a review of a lot of boring basics, with some entertaining anecdotes sprinkled in.  Things got a lot better in the afternoon when we went to the range for live fire.  We started slowly, but soon were engaging multiple targets with multiple shots.  There was an emphasis on accurate shooting, and on keeping our guns loaded and running.

We shot a few slugs to evaluate our point of impact, and did a little work on transition to handguns.

The second day was all live fire.  We reviewed some of the activities from the previous day, and got into some turning and shooting, and shooting on the move.  In the afternoon, we shot some more slugs (although I don't recall doing any ammo changeovers), and then did some shooting and moving from behind barricades, utilizing birdshot, buckshot and slugs.  All told, we went through around 350 rounds of birdshot/target loads, around 25 rounds of buckshot, and around 15 slugs.  I'm proud to say that my small-framed body (just under 150 pounds) held up fine, with no soreness in my shoulder or anywhere else.

This class was somewhat basic, relative to other training I've done, but I'm hoping to get back up there for some of their more advanced offerings.  I also would not mind doing some handgun training there.  Took me five hours of driving each way from north Jersey (Google Maps says just a little over four hours, but I encountered pockets of heavy traffic both ways), but I would have to say it was worth it.
