Stuck hex screw on savage 111 bolt :/

Recommended Posts

If the bolt works why take it apart at all? Most owners never take it apart ever. No need. Shoot it. Spray rem oil in there through the firing pin hole and blow it out with compressed air. If you really want to clean it submerge in solvent for a while then blow the inside out with air and light oil or CLP. It isn't an AR that needs to be cleaned scrupously to work.

BTW the shock and heat of shooting a good number of rounds through the gun might help break free those threads. And Kroil penetrating oil is highly regarded by gunsmiths for loosening stuck fasteners. Try soaking the end of the bolt in Kroil before and after range trips. Those two things ought to prevail over time so you can eventually get that bolt disassembled

Im just really picky. Not necessary, but the gun doesnt look like it was cleaned all too often and i wanted to open it up to make sure its rust free and all; every time i shoot, even if its 50rds, i strip everything down to the firing pin on my ARs.

If it's in there with loctite use the heat gun but monitor the temps with an infrared temperature gun and keep it around 470 f and it should break free. If you think it's just rusted in then use real bees wax (not candle wax) and heat it to about 450 f and put a couple of drops of melted bees wax on it then try to brake it loose.
