he has several videos him restoring of guns in similar condition. one of them was a mini14 that was found in a pond or something if I recall correctly. I followed that 1911 restoration, its really interesting. I'd love to try something like that one day too

Yeah.  I've seen several threads by this guy.  He does cool things to stuff most would toss.
