FBI Selects Glock Pistol

According to an award announcement posted today on FedBizOpps The Federal Bureau of Investigation has selected the Glock pistol as their new sidearm. In contrast to the US Army’s plodding attempt to find a new service pistol, the FBI’s program for a 9mm replacement took just nine months from issuing the solicitation to industry to award. The contract ceiling is $85 million.

One of the requirements of the FBI was to have pistols without finger grooves. So the Glocks they get will be a new model. Maybe just a Gen 4 without finger grooves, but some are speculating it's going to be a Gen 5.

I heard this as well - I don't mind the finger grooves on my Gen4, quite comfortable - would be nice to have an ambidextrous slide stop however, as a lefty I use my trigger finger on my Gen4

Correct

Earlier today FedBizOpps.gov announced a contract award for the FBI solicitation for new 9mm service and training weapons. In the solicitation the FBI required (1) compact framed pistol, (1) full size pistol, (1) Man-Marker (Simunition) pistol, and (1) Inert training pistol. While many thought Sig Sauer had this one all but in the bag with their popular and highly modular P320, the award went to Glock.

While the FBI is the agency that submitted the original solicitation, it probably won’t be the only agency that adopts the new pistol. Other government entities that may purchase pistols and parts under this contract include:

United States Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security

United States Marshals Service

Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms

United States Postal Service

United States Treasury Department

Drug Enforcement Agency

United States Capitol Police

United States Park Police

United States Department of Energy

Office of Inspector General (all Federal agencies)

United States Department of Defense

As to exactly what model(s) were awarded, we can tell you this: It isn’t something currently commercially available. One of the bigger clues about this was the requirement “Finger grooves on the frame are not permitted“, which counts out a standard Generation 4 Glock. We will have further details for you tomorrow regarding other changes.

You can check out the page on FedBizOpps.gov here, and read the original FBI solicitation here.

I'm guessing the "Gen 5" will be produced for agency use, tested, evaluated, and possibly tweaked slightly after a bit of use and then eventually opened up as a Gen 5 for sale for everyone - probably will take a couple years, and the Gen 3's will be phased out and then the Gen 5's will be sold next to Gen 4's with the 4's retail prices dropping slightly - IMO

Or maybe all they did with the service pistol is just make a modified frame mold from the Gen 4, without finger grooves, and maybe not many other major changes, this could be why they won the contract as if they didn't modify much on the Gen 4 besides the frame they probably could have easily underbid Sig's P320 IMO - maybe it could be sold in the future as a "Gen 4+" or something, but now I'm thinking like Apple with iPhones lol

Why? You think after making millions of them Glock will have a hard time running plastic pouring machine 5% faster?

Yes when SOCOM and the seals announced they were going to the 19 they were a bit scarce in fact blue labels were virtually nonexistent.  So yes, I expect there to be some liquidity issues regarding Glock 19s.

The FBI has the best firearms, ammunition, and body armor testing and evaluation division in the country - and probably the world.

Which is why this is a huge win for glock. How many agencies will switch to the 9mm glock (dumping their 40s&w) based off of this testing and selection. I'm guessing more than 1.

I'm interested in what the mods are. I've read no finger grooved and no precocked striker
