Gun Rights Advocates Have A Devastating New Argument Against Gun Control.

Here It Is.

Written by Kurt Schlichter

American gun owners are beginning to respond with a fresh, powerful argument when facing anti-gun liberals. Here it is, in its entirety. Ready?

“Screw you.” That’s it. Except the first word isn’t “Screw.”

It’s not exactly a traditional argument, but it’s certainly appropriate here. The fact is that there is no point in arguing with liberal gun-control advocates because their argument is never in good faith. They slander gun owners as murderers. They lie about their ultimate aim, which is to ban and confiscate all privately owned weapons. And they adopt a pose of reasonability, yet their position is not susceptible to change because of evidence, facts or law. None of those matter – they already have their conclusion. This has to do with power – their power.

You can’t argue with someone who is lying about his position or whose position is not based upon reason. You can talk all day about how crime has diminished where concealed carry is allowed, while it flourishes in Democrat blue cities where gun control is tightest. You can point to statistics showing that law-abiding citizens who carry legally are exponentially less likely to commit gun crimes than other people. You can cite examples of armed citizens protecting themselves and their communities with guns. You can offer government statistics showing how the typical American is at many times greater risk of death from an automobile crash, a fall, or poisoning than from murder by gun.

But none of that matters, because this debate is not about facts. It’s about power. The liberal anti-gun narrative is not aimed at creating the best public policy but at disarming citizens the liberal elite looks down upon – and for whom weapons represent their last-ditch ability to respond to liberal overreach.

Put simply, liberal elitists don’t like the fact that, at the end of the day, an armed citizenry can tell them, “No.”

So they argue in bad faith, shamelessly lying, libeling their opponents, and hiding their real endgame. Sure, sometimes the mask slips and a liberal politician like Mike Bloomberg or Diane Feinstein reveals their true agenda, but mostly they stay on-message.

For example, Barack Obama, who always tries to reassure us bitter clingers that he doesn’t want to take our guns, speaks longingly about the Australian plan – which was confiscation of most viable defensive weapons from the civilian population.

Obama is lying – about gay marriage, about your doctor – and he is likewise lying about guns. The minute he could disarm every American civilian he would, something particularly alarming in light of his pal Bill Ayers’ infamous observation that ‘fundamentally transforming’ America would require killing at least 25 million citizens.

No wonder free Americans are done pretending the gun argument is a rational debate and are responding with an extended middle finger – and the challenge to come and take their arms. The fact remains that any outright attempt to take the arms from tens of millions of American gun owners would almost certainly result in a second Civil War. And we all know how the first Civil War went for the Democrats.

So, through a campaign of shaming, dissembling, and outright slander, liberals are trying to talk Americans into giving up their weapons voluntarily. There’s always another “common sense” restriction to enact, spurred on by a tragedy that the last “common sense” restriction didn’t prevent and that the proposed new “common sense” restriction would not have prevented. They want to do it in baby steps, and with our cooperation, since they cannot do it by force.

There are a few people arguing in good faith, but it’s too late. Liberal writer Kurt Eichenwald recently wrote a “compromise” proposal to settle the gun issue that was notable because he actually analyzed gun freedom arguments and agreed with some of them. He cited the silliness of the “assault weapons” and “cop killer” bullet lies. While he still rejects 30 round capacity magazines, he began with opposition to silencers and then, after hearing facts and evidence from knowledgeable gun owners, changed his position. That’s good faith, the threshold requirement for a real debate, but Eichenwald mistakenly assumes this is a debate based upon reason between good faith opponents. It’s not. It’s based upon the desire of liberals for total supremacy.

So until the gun control argument becomes a real argument instead of a transparent power grab, there’s only one appropriate response to liberal gun banners. And it’s similar to “Screw you.”

I believe those paragraphs capture the crux of the matter.

I've seen this article before, and I agree with it wholeheartedly.

I've been tempted to use this "argument" myself many times. This is why I don't.

Reflexive gun haters: These are people whose minds you'll never change, not ever. "Fuck you" is pretty much a conversation-ender so I prefer rejoinders like "so the asshole killed that kid in Flemington because I have guns in MY house, stored and deployed safely?" Or now that I carry that goddamned Phart Smone on me at all times I show them this article as evidence of the utter failure of our criminal justice system and the idiocy of gun laws. Then they call me a racist and I get 10x more fun out of the conversation than if I'd raised the F-finger. Because as you know the only thing worse than a "racist" is a "racist" who loves guns.

Politicians (sub-category of mindless haters): This is the only group where a healthy, hearty "Fuck you" is warranted. You're as likely to change their votes as you are of winning the Intergalactic Six-Gun, Laser Category, Championship so have fun. They're in any case despicable so raise your finger with enthusiasm. Even if they're pro-gun they're only whoring for votes and would instantly switch their positions if the winds blew that way. So yes, fuck all of them with a splintery telephone pole, no Crisco.

People in the middle: It's amazing how much progress you can make with some people. I take back what I said previously about this being a waste of time. My wife and parents -- all previously deemed hopeless -- now accept my infatuation with the manly arts, and even ask me about it. I'm crossing my fingers that wifey will accompany me to CR's free intro to archery next month. That's HUGE. I also enjoy the tremendous fortune of my daughter marrying a snake-eating, hog-wrassling, swamp-water-guzzling, gun-toting Alabamian.

So use that finger, but use it wisely as it can be a deadly weapon.

I do not agree.

I have converted dozens of NJ antis. Some are no longer anti, many still don't like guns but at least concede and realize they are generally not a problem.

Of course there are some that are raging lunatics. But I have found most can be converted to some extent with the proper approach. I am now "the go-to gun guy." Whenever I go to Jersey, for work, even for family dinners, I get sincere questions about guns and gun policy instead of criticism or bullshit.

I hereby cordially invite you to attend the next meal shared between my family and our potential future in-laws. My son has fallen for a gal who's afraid of guns (he hopes to slowly ease her into a less fearful perspective) and has a mother who seems to think Bloomberg is a godlike creature. She's constantly putting up anti-gun propaganda on social sites. I have tried countering a few of them with gentle arguments in our favor, but,,,,,this person is likely to be part of my social circle for a very long time.

This is going to end up becoming an issue when my son and her daughter begin sharing a household and he decides to bring into said home his several LEGAL projectile delivery tools.

I know exactly how you feel. Everybody in my family, and most of our friends, were antis. Except my dad. They have come around as discussed. When my mom first saw me carrying a gun she flipped the Hell out. There are times in life you can get in fights with family and they can end several ways, including nothing good. There are a few times in life that the women realize there is nothing they can do to fight and they just give up. It is rare, but it happens. The women certainly get more passes ;)

Well, after several years, my step dad told me my mom now finds my gun comforting because of the protection it may afford. I would say too comforting. When I drag her to Walmart she starts complaining about black people. Not racist, just the way they are dressed/wear their clothes/size of their asses. Well, she is too loud, because her hearing is bad. Black people can be sensitive to this stuff. It's not fun to tell your mom to STFU. I had one black guy look at me and raise his eyebrows, and the message was clearly, "You better hope my lady doesn't hear your mom, cause I'll have to kick your ass." I told the story at Thanksgiving, and of course, my mom denied it. My stepdad said, "Well you have a gun!" I had to tell everyone it's not that simple.

My wife bought me a 6" Colt King Cobra ultra stainless at the bullet hole for a wedding present.  I picked it up, she had prepurchased it before anyone starts the straw purchase stuff.

My wife bought me a 6" Colt King Cobra ultra stainless at the bullet hole for a wedding present.  I picked it up, she had repurchased it before anyone starts the straw purchase stuff.

.

I was at an Eagle show and all three of us were OC. My friends are vendors and I have been seen with them so often that they leave me alone. Carry is generally not allowed.

So the woman wants a 1911 .22. They have three colors. She asks us which one to get and we debate it. I'm starting to think, Uh oh, this is starting to look like a straw purchase. Which would have been legal in this case if they were married and it was a gift. But the dealer has no way to know they are married at this point. Her PICS (NICS) check takes about a half hour and after ten minutes her husband leaves and goes back to work.

She realizes she has no money. She tells me to go get $300 from my friend.`In front of the dealer. I'm thinking, you have to be kidding me, this looks like a straw purchase. I come back with the money and she gets approved in another 5 minutes. My friend shows up the moment she is approved and I am thinking, no way he is going to give her the gun.

The dealer, who apparently never met them, said, "This looks like a straw purchase. but I can tell you are married and it's not. I know the man usually carries the money." Whatever that means. Well, all's well that ends well. She got her little .22. She carries a .40 and makes fun of me carrying a 9mm because "it's a girl's gun."

Yeah I had to fix my typo.  My wife PRE-purchased the gun....paid for it and I went and got it with my permit.  So it was more like a gift certificate to get the gun.  I still have it....the gun and the wife.

Final take away - they are your potentially your SONS in laws and not yours, you do not have to like them - or impress them.

Nick, thanks for the story, it does give me a bit of encouragement.

I do have to point out in my case, that the future in laws and we have been hanging together for 7 or 8 years already, and we get along well. We just haven't ever had a real conversation on the topic. I've been reluctant to start one up after seeing her comments online. But we do spend time together, and are close by geographically. If the kids get hitched, we'll be seeing them more often. It's far easier for all if we can get along.

I'm going to have to talk with my son about his plans regarding it.

I appreciate you taking the time for this.

Your mom sounds a little like my wife, she gets on a rant now and then. Not prejudiced, but a little intolerant, since she's been dealing with a commute for 30 odd years on the trains to NY. Talks about some of the behavior she's had to deal with,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Good of you to fill in some of the gaps in my education about educating them. Thanx!!
