What is the process of obtaining a pistol permit if I already have an FID?

Recommended Posts

I already have an FID, is the pistol permit process more streamlined if I already have a FID?

I'm wondering because I don't feel like getting finger printed again, or waiting 6 months.

Same process as Fpid. You may not need to be printed again. Depends on town and how long ago you got your Fpid.

Whether you will need to be printed again is up to the LEO department, nothing you can do for that.  See if the department has a website and if the procedure for P2P is documented there or give them a call.

In NJ at a minimum you will need to print and fill out a NJSP STS-33 Application found on their Website, print and fill out a SP-66 mental health form but do not sign it and take them to your issuing department.  They will give you an ORI number to complete the final form online the 212A background check.

Alright, so it's the same process as before. Minus the printing, that was a pain in the ass. Specially since, I ended up doing it twice, once of the permit and a few weeks later for my job.

I have to say that I have never seen the words "pistol permit" and "streamlined" in the same sentence

Consider yourself lucky. My department requires an extra questionnaire form which is one question shy of a full background check of your immediate family. They do their own investigation too so it's minimum 3 months. I live in a virtually crime free town too.

See, the NJ Government knows what's best for Joe Citizen. More restrictions work.

Hey overholt. Dont dare to fill out any of their illegal forms. What town is it. Ill call them directly and inform them of it. They by legal statues have 30 days to give you your p2p's.

Or contact nj2as and im sure alex will look into it. Or anjrpc.

Appreciate the support. While part of me regrets not doing that from the get go, I'm trying to extend a courtesy so they respond in the like. If I remember correctly, I don't believe I did this questionaire back in 2012 when I got my FID, but for some reason I can't see how my thought process has changed since then. As much as I'd like to play hardball...[deleted]... I have Jef Hennigers number handy, as well as NJ2AS's, in the event of a denial, which I'm considering is a possibility, for reasons explained in another thread.

FYI on the site they do asterisk it as voluntary, but earlier on they say "you will need to complete the below applications". It's insinuated that you should probably do it. In hindsight, I regret it.

... As much as I'd like to play hardball, there's one thing I've come to accept: 9 times out of 10, cops do what they want and get what they want when they want...

Some people may take offense when you generalize like this. In your particular situation, the only reason they get away with it is because people let them, as are you.
