.357 Sig VS .40 S&W

Recommended Posts

A few handguns I am looking at come in both size caliber. Was looking to see if you all can shed some light on your personal experience with the two and pros and cons to each compar d to the other.

Thanks!

I have a 1911, P226 and P229 (all Sig Sauer) chambered on 357sig and I really like the caliber. I do reload my own and it requires a little bit more of experience than other calibers. I like the recoil impulse and it shoots very flat. I also have several 40sw guns and I think I like better the 357sig.

.357 Sig is a .40 cartridge necked down to hold a 9mm bullet (basically).  More powder behind it so you're propelling a smaller projectile faster.  Bottlenecked cartridges are more difficult to reload than straight-walled (more steps to reload).  .40 S&W can be found fairly cheaply at times and sometimes in more quantity than 9mm.
