Mrs. Peel 7,157 Posted July 10, 2016 I thought the chart with this article was interesting. Stats seemed to align with other things I've seen... EXCEPT THIS one: 41% of households own guns... Really? I thought I had seen other references showing about 25% of households as gun owning. Am I wrong? Anyway, sharing link here: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/americans-urged-to-buy-a-gun-get-trained-carry-it-always/article/2596052

Anyway, sharing link here: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/americans-urged-to-buy-a-gun-get-trained-carry-it-always/article/2596052 you're not wrong it's just that the data varies wildly. the problem is that i've read many people simply don't want to admit or advertise they have guns in their homes for a bunch of reasons, which makes all of the surveys highly suspect. true story: i was once asked in a survey for a paper whether i owned a gun. i said no. nobody needs to know a damn thing. same reason why i don't have my nra sticker on my car or some cute slogan warning thieves on my welcome mat. it could make you a target. target from your gun-grabbing hippie neighbors, target for law enforcement looking for a reason to pull you over, target for thugs looking to break in and steal your guns when you're not home. in my real life i don't know nothing about guns to anyone who asks. no idea what you're talking about, move along. in the wonderful world of the anonymous internet? that's where the truth can be found... i think an awful lot of ppl think the same way, hence the huge spread in these surveys

Anyway, sharing link here: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/americans-urged-to-buy-a-gun-get-trained-carry-it-always/article/2596052 Look at the statement in your link again. It doesn't say 41% of households, it says 41% of Americans say they have a firearm in their home. Multiple residents of the same household would be combined in your statement, while they would be counted individually in the way the article states. IOW - three people living at the same address, each owning a firearm, would be one household, but three Americans with a firearm in their home. Also much truth in that people are loathe to reveal to an anonymous pollster whether there is a gun in the house. And as always, as Mark Twain was fond of saying: There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies and statistics. Adios, Pizza Bob
Lambo2936 297 Posted July 10, 2016 That's exactly what i'm thinking. I'd certainly believe that 41% of american citizens are armed, factoring in that while only 12% or so in NJ are, in the south 238% of the population is armed (Factoring in for armed farm animals and such). Rob0115 1,105 Posted July 10, 2016 And here is my question....How do we get firearms into the other 59% of the households? I gave this a like but I'd probably say 58%. There's gotta be some folks that shouldn't own
