Legal to ship a pistol

Recommended Posts

You can ship it yourself, either FedEx or UPS will do it. It will need to go priority overnight, and be shipped from a UPS or FedEx Service Center; not from a local UPS Store, Mailboxes Etc..

FedEx will only ship a firearm to a business (at least that was what I was told a few days ago), but UPS did ship to a gunsmith with a residential address. Both are expensive (~ $40 - $90).

As mentioned above, a FFL can ship using USPS and the cost savings can be justified against their service fees.

Shipping back can be direct to your home. Admittedly, It does feel kinda weird to have the FedEx guy give you a box with a gun in it.

Not to thread jack, but I'm doing a Maine vacation with a (damnit...) one night stop in Boston. MA is probably just as bad as Jersey with gun laws so getting my carry pistol to Maine is going to be near impossible.

If I were to ship my pistol to a Maine FFL, would the FFL be able to give me my pistol?

Wow, that's A big question.

The only thought I have is if you ship it to A FFL you are probably looking at A transfer issue.   Other thoughts are probably not appropriate from any of us here.

Damn, that's what I was afraid of. My thought was that no FFL would want to touch this job. I'm not getting a background check on my own gun!

Ironically it's easier for a non resident to get a ccw than a MA resident. How much time do you have before your trip?

Wow, interesting. Unfortunately I leave Saturday. Breaks my heart to visit a constitutional carry state and not have my pistol!
