jiujiujiu 2 Posted July 11, 2016 Hey, I applied for my FID about a month ago. I've heard varying reports on how long it takes. The ranges include 30 days to 9 months, so I'm asking the collective wisdom of this forum what is a realistic expectation for my FID to clear NJ bureaucracy. Thanks

Thanks Fixed it for ya, If you list the town maybe someone local can answer your question.
jiujiujiu 2 Posted July 11, 2016 Oh, I thought it was a state wide thing. I'm in Washington Township, Warren County. I thought the paperwork had to clear Trenton before it came back to my local police station. This, I assume, would be what takes so long. My town isn't a very busy place. kirk2022 43 Posted July 11, 2016 Its normally the town with the holdups on FID and P2Ps, The Chiefs have to sign off. Somebody will be along shortly to offer A time frame.
miller511 1 Posted July 12, 2016 Went through it a few years back. It took two or three weeks, way faster than expected. The old chief was very fast at getting it through. He retired recently but I think you should have it fairly soon the PD is great in town all very nice to get along with.
67gtonut 847 Posted July 12, 2016 OP has not responded back.... But I am pretty sure Washington Twp has to go through NJSP Barracks ...... which from what I hear.... can be a longer wait then local town processing
jiujiujiu 2 Posted July 12, 2016 No, I received and turned in the paperwork to my local police department. What they do with it at that point, I don't know.
djg0770 481 Posted July 12, 2016 Local PD - in a rural township. Are you friends with the mayor yet?
PD2K 115 Posted July 12, 2016 No, I received and turned in the paperwork to my local police department. What they do with it at that point, I don't know. I would contact the PD and inquire to what's the delay.
jiujiujiu 2 Posted July 12, 2016 UPDATE: I contacted the PD and the reason it hasn't gone through is that one of my references didn't return the questionnaire they were sent. I've given them another person as a reference and they will make sure to fill it out for me when it arrives. My other reference told me that he received the questionnaire weeks ago and sent it in. So, my friend failed me not the PD. I'll yell at him to start checking his damn mail. Thanks to all of you I actually called and asked about the delay. They are simply waiting on that second reference. I had no idea they would actually contact my references in writing. Thanks again. I expect I should have my FID by next week. Lambo2936 297 Posted July 12, 2016 I had the same thing happen just recently, friend claims it came back in the mail.
Ricky_Bobby 130 Posted July 13, 2016 My buddy lives in Allamuchy (Panther Valley) and had to go to NJSP barracks in Hope I believe - the trooper told him 3 months minimum which I told him was bullshit - but out in the boonies where you are at the whim of the NJSP not much he can really do - who's he gonna complain to, Trenton? I think he turned in his paperwork 2 weeks ago and I still haven't gotten his reference letter from them yet (I am one of his references)
T Bill 649 Posted July 13, 2016 Hope Barracks is one of the worst for paperwork. Most see it in, wait for it,4-6 months. Somebody on the board here rattled their cage, but alas things are back to normal I hear.
Ricky_Bobby 130 Posted July 13, 2016 Ouch - I grew up in White Twp and I never was more thankful to move out of that area of the state after college - 30+ minutes from civilization, terrible commute and traffic etc - I can see the NJSP out there are busy as ever LOL - wouldn't want to overwork the troopers out there who are camped on the same spots of 519, 46, and Rt. 80 being tax collectors.
