oldboy 1 Posted July 15, 2016 My previous FID card was issued in 1973. Going for a change of address and the 212A application is asking for a SBI number. Only number on the front of my card is the six digit followed by a letter. Are both numbers one and the same? The back of the card has SBI XXX-X-XX printed in the lower corner but is not accepted on the application. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

PK90 3,569 Posted July 23, 2016 I've seen 5 numbers with no letter. Guy was in his 90s. Sent from an undisclosed location via Tapatalk.
T Bill 649 Posted July 23, 2016 Here's a good one for you. I still have my dad's original ID card from when then they first required them in the late 60's. He was one of the first to apply for it. He tried to use it once but was almost arrested by the Paramus Police in Ramsey Outdoor. Seems they never saw a green one with no SBI number on it. They confirmed it was not forgery, told him to go to the issuer PD and get it updated. He said FM, never did and never used it again.
brucin 918 Posted July 23, 2016 Mine is 4 numbers and a letter. It was issued 4 years ago. I get plenty questions about it.

Yes I was fingerprinted prior to being employed by a board of education to work as a technical director for the high school drama club. That was back in the early 90's. Malice4you 627 Posted July 24, 2016 Somewhat related question...is the SBI number related to the issuing department, i.e. Morristown PD is 123###X or Sussex state police barracks is 456###X or Paramus is 789###X, or is it just issued in order of use, i.e. i'm issued my SBI number 123456A at 12:47pm, and Jim Smith is issued 123456B (or would it be 123457A?) at 12:48pm? Or is it just a randomized string that 654321Z might be issued immediately after 123456A? Which makes me think of another question, are there any characters not used, like some software serial numbers will not use 'O' or 'I' to avoid confusion? PK90 3,569 Posted July 24, 2016 Consecutive numbers then letters. My guess: from looking at thousands: 000001A til 999999A, then starting over at 000001B. Are the letters into the Hs yet? I don't know about unissued letters or numbers. Sent from an undisclosed location via Tapatalk.
