njJoniGuy 2,131 Posted July 24, 2016 Some NJ FFLs require the customer to pay for, submit, and be approved by NICS before doing the financial transaction of selling you a firearm. In my case, it was Cheyenne Mtn (prior to online NICS) and in my SIL's case, it was Bass Pro in AC yesterday. If you change your mind about making that particular purchase, how long is the NICS approval valid for at the FFL who submitted it? Can you 'take' that approval to a different FFL (in NJ) and use it there instead of at the shop who submitted it? If so, for how long?

They are collecting the fee up front, because often the buyer backs out on a delayed response, leaving the dealer to foot the charge. NICS is good for 30 days, but if the customer backs out, don't expect the dealer to keep the transaction open. The NICS check is dealer specific and can't be used anywhere else. maintenanceguy 510 Posted July 24, 2016 Who backs out on delayed NICS? I can see that when NICS was taking 3 weeks but now? I've had NICS delayed and told the dealer to just call me when it came through and I'd pick up my gun later.

I believe the latter means they're looking further into the case. Sent from my Z812 using Tapatalk
capt14k 2,052 Posted July 24, 2016 Deal with a local FFL. Steve at Monmouth Arms can get you what you are looking for likely at a better price. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
