sroc112 24 Posted August 7, 2016 Is there a sticky or previous thread on this site on how to properly go about selling one of your own handguns? I am looking for all proper paper work, where to send, process, etc. everything needed to make sure that serial number is no longer in your name but now in the new owners name. bhunted 887 Posted August 7, 2016 Buyer needs permit so that's their prob. The Certificate of Eligibility can be downloaded of the NJSP website in pdf form. It also has editable blanks so you can type in most of the info. I usually always provide them regardless of whom seller is if I have all info. Just fulfills my OCD in having neat forms. Not necessary but professional, various sites have downloadable firearms receipts which are usually in Word doc form. Thats all you really need except legal IDs. Soon as all forms are in the proper hands, you are clear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ogfarmer 138 Posted August 7, 2016 Coe (certificate of eligibility) is only for long guns.
T Bill 649 Posted August 7, 2016 For handgun sale, buyer presents :P2P and ID. Instructions are all on the P2P, I believe. Fill it out and give him his copy. You mail one copy to NJSP and one copy to department that issued the P2P, last copy you keep, done deal. As far as providing a reciept, that is between you and the buyer. sroc112 24 Posted August 7, 2016 Now how would the seller in this case, me, know if the buyer bought another handgun within the last 30 days?
T Bill 649 Posted August 7, 2016 Now how would the seller in this case, me, know if the buyer bought another handgun within the last 30 days? You don't and there is no way of knowing. Basically, it is not your problem, it's the buyers. NJSP and issuing department will tatoo him soon enough. Not a problem for you. Don't ask, don't tell. Just make sure the paperwork in completed properly with correct information and dates.
PK90 3,570 Posted August 7, 2016 You don't actually need an ID. A permit or FPID is sufficient. Sent from an undisclosed location via Tapatalk.
