Some AR ??'s, looking for a CQ setup

Recommended Posts

I just finished building up a HD Rifle and I like the CNC upper/lower

Midwest PX lower receiver - CNC

Spartan upper from Joe bobs - CNC -- this upper is the perfect match for the midwest PX lower -- I'm not sure if Ty ever got around to sourcing the CNC uppers to match his lower

14.5 ballistic advantage stainless hanson mid length barrel with a Lantac dragon pinned

Geiselle 13" MK4 mloc handguard -- the model with short rail pieces on the end

Geiselle SSA-E trigger

Aimpoint PRO

Diamond head back up sights

Ergo grip

Hogue carbine stock pinned at position 4 I think -- I had a magpul fixed carbine stock on it but it was just too short for me

BCM BCG

Streamlight TRL-1 HL on the right side rail

Cool. I'd love to know what NJ legal affordable muzzle brake mitigates the most muzzle flash. My carbine has a AK74 style brake, and my AR is not set up for HD although it would do the job so the barrel is target crowned.

These aren't exclusively brakes, but give a pretty good idea:

PS. Troy Claymore looks like a flame thrower in that first vid lol

I think something like a Surefire socom brake with a warden attached would be great indoors

There really isn't a difference as far as maneuverability in a house between an 11.5"-16" barreled AR- if you know how to move.

I am issued both an 11.5" SBR and an MP5, and I own an MSAR STG E4 (a bullpup style AUG clone). Strangely, with its 16" barrel the MSAR is actually shorter than the 11.5" SBR with the stock collapsed, and it is only about 1/2" longer overall than the MP5 with its 9" barrel.

Even with all those options, I use a rifle with 14.5" midlength BCM upper (BC 1.5 pinned to make 16") for HD. DaddyNick's rifle looks like a good setup overall for the base of a social gun. Throw a white light, and sling (minimum) and an optic (not necessary but encouraged) on there and you are all set.

In a residential house CONUS, a rifle with a 16" overall length barrel is fine. On that note - be careful you don't pin the stock too close in an attempt to shorten the overall length. There are drawbacks that affect handling when the stock is too short. A comfortable rifle with all the controls and sights where you want is is better than a rifle that is 2" shorter but uncomfortable and hard to manipulate.

Where you really notice the benefit of a shorter gun is in vehicles - but the SBRs have their own set of issues there that you have to contend with. But that is a whole other topic.

Yeah, i have no intention of pinning the stock too short just to save on length.

A 14.5+1.5 barrel is what i was hoping for.. Not like i'll get anything shorter anyways, haha.

I'd like to go for the tavor, depending on what i get/if i can sell my M1A & Other stuff.

I have a traditional AR in 5.56mm, which I love... but I built a second to try and lighten it up. Tried a Tennessee Arms polymer lower, but had issues with the lower specs... so returned them (bought three) and got a Spikes.

Ended up going with a D/I .45, with an upper from Macon Armory. Also uses their magazine adapter that accepts HK USC magazines in a standard AR magazine well.

Came out to a 6 pound rifle, as configured. Really happy with the handling. Macon Armory is about to release their own magazine... which will also fit a standard AR magazine well. Only plus over the USC magazine is that they will be doing a 15 round capacity. I was given one of the new magazine adapters when I had to send the upper back (they originally used a one piece gas ring, which caused issues when they heated up), and it will utilize the standard magazine button. Can't wait to get some magazines.
