I'm a moderate, and I try my best not to be prejudicial.

Many times I've been proven wrong about a person after actually getting to know them.

I'm abit worried, and unsure if I'm just being paranoid because it's just that time of year again (9-11).

But I'm curious on what other people's reaction should be.

What I saw:

Was in Woodbridge's Dick's this weekend, saw a guy (in obvious religious garb) with two 420 cases of Federal ammo with a goofy look on his face walking out.

Didn't think much of it until recently (again, I know good people that's surprised me).

Hope it's nothing.

P.S.

Too late to worry about it now.  Had it been me, in camo gear and a shit eating grin would you have the same thoughts?  You are playing right into the liberal's hands.  "Nobody can be trusted with firearms but the government".  I'll stop here for now, I do have more deeper thoughts, but I like to keep a few surprises.

If he had on a giant gold cross, sagging pants, and a sideways turned unbent brimmed cap on I would have called it in. Nobody up to no good is going into a store like that. Clean shaven and well dressed to appear mainstream and avoid suspicion. Did they have a sale? Maybe the decimal point was in the wrong spot and he got a steal of a deal. :)

Interesting.  Just the other day I sort of had a similar but different thought.  I was driving west on RT78 to the USPSA Area8 match with a friend and was thinking to myself the headline in the press if we were stopped that the police found two white middle aged males with three guns and well over 1,000 rounds of ammo at 5:30am - they must have been up to no good.

I would have thought this is one guy I would have stereotyped as a democrat but I'm being proven wrong.  However, most likely I would have no thought at all.

Many of them come from shitty areas themselves, and know the importance of self defense. The guy had to have an FID though. More power to him. TBH id be uneasy around him myself if he were armed, but im Israeli and have had missiles blow up in my yard as a child... Lol.. the relationship my people have with M.E. people is a bit different. That said, most ARE peaceful people. The ones we hear about are their equivelant of the westboro baptist church who has taken matters into their own hands. Many Muslims fight in the IDF along side Jews and Christians.

Why do you think this would make headlines if you were transporting everything legally?

Because this is leftist New Jermany where all too many people think having more that 10 rounds makes you a criminal and having more than say 100 makes you a likely terrorist.  We all know that 1,000 rounds is not all that much, but it would make headlines on the NJ evening news.  The we would have dear Loretta proposing a law to make it a crime to have more than one box of ammo in your possession.

When i first got my FID i thought 1,000 was a ton.

I now have a HELL of a lot more than that, though... turns out i can easily go through nearly 1,000 rounds in a single trip to the range (mostly 22) with me and another person, haha.

Yea 1,000 is not a big number, and most of us have a lot more than that.  That said, if you are going through over 1,000 rounds at one range visit one could argue that you are just converting dollars to noise.  What are you accomplishing firing that many rounds?  Do you have a plan?  Are you actually training or just poking lots of random holes?  If you have the money and enjoy converting it to noise then more power to you.  I just can't imagine firing that many rounds in one session and getting much out of it.  But hey, that is just me.

You make the assumption he is training. I enjoy going to the range and plinking away. Bring a friend on a nice day and the time and rounds fly by.

^Exactly.

My significant other burned through 300 rounds of .22, and thats because thats all i brought. I Shot my glock for the first time the other day and put about 200 rounds down range. I Can easily put just as many down my AR, and was going to but the guy next to me was stealing my brass and i didnt want to get into an argument over it, because my brass was landing at his bench. Nevermind my other rifles and such, and 500 rounds in a day when im not alone is no problem.

When its just me i burned through 350 or so, maybe.
I Shoot for fun, moreso than to prepare for the EOTWAWKI. I Currently have no need to be able to effectively shoot more than 50', and i know i can take someone down with a kill shot at AT LEAST 5x that with my AR. (100 yard line at Range 14 is as far as i generally shoot)
Good enough for me. If the world ends, my equipment can easily shoot out past that, so im really not too worried about it.

This is an example of the paranoia much in evidence among many people relating to guns and gun ownership.

Howard, how many stories have you seen where people were legally transporting guns and/or ammunition were detained by the police? Few if any. If there is no crime there is no press reporting. If one were to station a reporter outside of every gun club and commercial range in NJ on a Saturday the press could report "Thousands transport gun and ammunition to ranges. No one is shot". Not much of a story. It would be the same if they reported "No one charged with reckless driving on the parkway this weekend".

DirtyHalfBreedModerate, I'm still not aware of what religious garb that person was wearing. I'll bet it wasn't a yamulke or clerical collar. Would you have felt better if that guy was dressed like the Pope. He has to have NJFID if he's buying ammo at Dick's. He's undergone some scrutiny.

I'm not making any excuses for stupid NJ gun laws. However a lot of the possible circumstances thought up are right up there with the number of people who ha e been arrested after stopping for gas or to use the bathroom.

I was sort of joking. I did not have expect to get stopped and if stopped I would not expect it to be an issue. BUT if some how it became an issue the left wing press would run with it big time.
