Your choice of CCW handgun, and opinions

Recommended Posts

DeerSlayer, I don't see what great advantage that Boberg has to justify 2 to 3 times the price of most of the others in the table you posted. A tenth or quarter inch in dimensions doesn't make much difference unless you need to put it in a particular size box. A couple of ounces one way or the other doesn't matter even if you're in the lunar escape module trying to get off the moon.

I'm not trying to bust your chops. Just trying to figure out why you think that gun is worth so much.

I'm with Griz. Indon't understand what that chart has to do with selecting a defensive firearm. There is nothing on there about reliability or accuracy - the two most important qualities for a firearm you intend to use for self defense.

The only category the Boberg is top dog on is it has the shortest length...

According to the criteria that chart uses to compare pistols, my Kahr beats the XR9S in 4 of the 7 categories - it is shorter, thinner, lighter, and less than 1/2 the price - so wouldn't the Kahr be a better choice? Following that logic, the Kel-Tec PF9 beats the Kahr in 5 of 7 categories and holds the top spots for the thinnest, lightest, and cheapest of all the firearms listed - the most top spots of any of the pistols listed - so should that be the top choice?

Depending on what I'm wearing I use either a Glock g43 talo or a g42

As far as a ultra compact 1911 I have a colt mustang xsp first edition. It's a .380 but it has the same trigger as a 1911 is comfortable. But mine is to nice to carry

I wouldn't consider a dp12, ksg, or utas finer things in life.

this signature exceeds the 15 character capacity count

Agreed. But to each their own.

The Boberg is probably a fine pistol that serves DS well. I have never seen or fired one and don't know much about it. Like Griz, I'm not ragging on his gun. (I do wonder how hard it is to find holsters for it.....)

Anyway....

I'm just confused with the "This is why" comment followed by a chart that shows other pistols as better choices based on the data the chart uses as a metric?

Since I am now permanently in the USA now I carry everywhere. A lot of the guns I thought would work are too big for me to carry every day. I always have a 380 in my pocket along with a G26. I just bought a Sig P290RS and it may end up becoming my EDC. The G19 and other similar sized guns were too big to cut conceal for me in the summer. I have also found that I have gone through a few holsters that just don't work for me.

I do like the fact that I can open carry, I just choose concealed carry. I see tons of people open carrying here in NW Va, even when picking kids up at the local school.

How do you like your 290? I got one for someone and they failed nics. I had an extra p2p so I transferred it to myself since I had already paid for it. I was debating taking the pink grips off and shooting it or just listing it later. I have 4 .380's so it kinda gets neglected

I like spending money lol... best answer I can come up with. Actually if you held it you would understand better. It's hand made, quality is right there with a higher end 1911. as far as fit and finish. They went the extra mile to make sure both sides were smooth so nothing gets hung up on a draw. It really is a true carry gun, and actually for what you get that price is a bargain. Also it's very accurate, has a nice trigger pull for SAO trigger, and has a pretty long barell for the overall length of the entire gun. Ergonomically it also feels great in the hand.

Capacity, and barrel length with over all size, are my reasons for posting the chart. on a single stack carry gun.

I have a lot of guns, and I respect everybody's choices for whatever they decide to go with. We all have different taste, and budgets. This particular gun caught my attention when it was released, and I liked it had everything I was looking for.

As far as holsters, JR at Titan had one made for me in a few days after ordering. Easy peasey.

Opinions on the G43? The trigger pull has been fixed in later builds(I can't find the serial number cutoff). Fondling both the Shield and G43, the Glock to my hands feels like a better fit. I have others in both platforms, so both are familiar. Anyone hear anything bad on the g43?

Two of my guys have G43s. We had the range all this last week. I put a couple hundred rounds through one. It shot well, no malfunctions. Not a great trigger but it gets the job done out to 25 yards. After about 50 rounds it starts to get snappy and a little fatiguing to shoot fast - But that's not what this gun's role is.

If I didn't already have the Kahr PM9 to fill the exact same role, I wouldn't hesitate to get a G43.

Friend just bought the Shield in .45 acp. Shot it yesterday. Very nice! Recoil is not bad at all. About the same or even better than my LC9 shooting 9mm.

Would seriously look at the firearm. Small enough to carry in a pocket of cargo shorts.

Just bought the G43 and love it. It's a bit smaller than the Shield. Ran 150 rounds thru it including some +p, shoots softer than my G26, and is very accurate. Now looking at holsters, the leather 1791 3wh looks nice for owb. Kydex or Leather??

The g43 shoots softer than g26? I would have thought it would be the other way around. I had a kahr pm9 which was very nice, but on the snappy side. I have a shield in 40 cal. Now haven't got around to shooting it.

I shot the Remington R51 and the Walther CCP today. My observations:

R51

Comfortable to hold, good pointer, nice trigger, shot 3" low @ 15 yards, made top of hand sore.

CCP

Comfortable to hold and shoot, longer trigger pull not noticeable, very accurate, could be an all day shooter.

Can't wait for the PPQ Compact to supplement my Q5.

While you live in No. FLits still hot most of the time. Don't do leather, I did carbon fiber and really like it. It's much less on the sweating.

Would love to buy the Shield in .45 but one of my huge gripes with the Shields is they couldn't make a reversible mag release?
