Handgun transfer to NYC - Good FFL near Union City/Hoboken?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I live near Union City/Hoboken and have a handgun I want to transfer to my friend who lives in New York City. I've been having a tough time finding an FFL within reasonable driving distance that has experience doing transfers like this and is willing to do it.

I'd really appreciate it your recommendations some good FFLs within driving distance that could help me with this.

Thanks in advance!

You can ship it direct to a NY FFL who is willing to accept it from someone who is not a FFL. This is the cheapest way.

If you can't find a FFL in NY who accepts a gun from a non FFL you need to have a NJ FFL to ship it to a NY FFL.

No "special permit" needed for a NJ FFL to ship a gun to a NY FFL. The NJ FFL never possesses the gun in NY. He ships it.

Your can't hand carry the gun in NY so it has to be shipped.

There's a range in NYC and I think they offer FFL transfers. I don't think they are cheap but if you want one in NYC they are prob the ones that can accomodate your needs. Give them a call and see what they can offer to you.Their contact info is below.

Don't you need the NJ FFL to transfer to the NY FFL?

Not necessarily if the receiving NY ffl is ok receiving from an individual. When the ffl receives it they will book it to their inventory. When the buyer comes and gets it they will book out.

If they don't you bring it to a local FFL and they'll book it in and then book it out noting to which ffl it was transferred to. They'll ship and then the receiving process is as above.

When sending as an individual you need to enclose a copy of your D/L or whatever ID you have. This way the recipient can note where they received it from.

What Robo115 said.

For example I brought my daughter in Colorado a couple of guns at Christmastime. We brought them to a FFL there who took them from me and transferred them to her.

You can't do this in NY because you can't just possess a handgun in NY state without a permit. The only exceptions NY allows AKAIK is for a competition.

OK so based on the OP's question we are assuming the friend has a gun license (or eligible) and if so then OP needs to go to NJ FFL to process transfer to NY FFL or find a NY FFL that will allow personal transfers to them w DL.
