jrfly3006 42 Posted September 15, 2016 This setup caught my eye for my current build. Considering a 14.5 mid BA Hanson with pinned lo pro GB and FF rail for the build. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this barrel length/gas setup and what the reliability is vs a carbine gas setup. Krdshrk 3,877 Posted September 15, 2016 Just as reliable as a carbine gas setup. I have a Spikes 14.5" Midlength and haven't had any problems (except the usual when it runs dry/dirty).
High Exposure 5,661 Posted September 15, 2016 I would argue it's more reliable than a carbine length. All my personal guns are 14.5" middy setups. It's the bees knees.
Vlad G 345 Posted September 15, 2016 Works fine, assuming the barrel and its gas port are correctly matched. I know nothing about the barrel you mentioned, but I have a lightweight upper built with a Spikes 14.5 pencil midlength barrel and it works just peachy. Purple Patrick 638 Posted September 15, 2016 My faxon pencil barrel, ti gas block and mid length gas system runs great. I just added a lw bcg, h2 buffer and spingco blue spring.... can't wait to see if that setup will run reliably this signature exceeds the 15 character capacity count
T Bill 649 Posted September 15, 2016 Two here, each in it's own caliber, works fine.
jrfly3006 42 Posted September 15, 2016 Thanks guys..most of the reviews on the Ballistic Advantage Hansons have been positive..im concerned more if the setup will run weaker stuff like Wolf Gold and PMC .223 reliably... Heavyopp 167 Posted September 15, 2016 BA hanson stainless 14.5 middy with pinned lo pro Gas Block used here -- I only have 250 rnds thru it but it runs like a champ with my hand loaded ammo

Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted September 15, 2016 My 3-gun rifle is a 14.5 middy, BCM upper. Not a single malfunction yet, knock on wood. It's awesome.
jrfly3006 42 Posted September 15, 2016 Whats the consensus on the pencil or light weight barrels?..to hot too fast..accuracy loss when hot or not something i need to worry about? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk With a 14.5" are you really going for sub-MOA accuracy? That's why people get HBAR barrels for their 20" Precision rifles. Pencil/lightweight barrels are ok for regular use if you're concerned about weight - however if you're going to be doing mag dumps, it's gonna get hotter faster... jrfly3006 42 Posted September 15, 2016 Def not expecting MOA when hot..just not something thats gonna spray wild when pushed a bit Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Vlad G 345 Posted September 15, 2016 In my experience the biggest downside for pencil barrels is that your selection of gas blocks is much lower.
fatty 241 Posted September 15, 2016 my 14.5 bcm middy w/ lightweight barrel gets hot really quick. I've never done any accuracy tests though since its a close range HD rifle
Alex V 99 Posted September 15, 2016 built my wife an AR with a 14.5 middie Centurion Arms barrel and it eats everything and never had a problem.

Heavyopp 167 Posted September 16, 2016 What length hand guard do you run? Thats a Geiselle 13" MK4 -- It's kinda deceiving in that picture, there is a streamlight TRL-1 At the end of the hand guard making it look longer
jrfly3006 42 Posted September 16, 2016 Ok so you guys sold me..have a BCM 14.5 middy lightweight with BCM lopro GB inbound..prob gonna get a SureFire procomp pinned by Steve at Monmouth to make 16"..and about 95% set on Midwest Industries G3 Lightweight Mlok FF tube..since going new barrel also gonna spring for a new Toolcraft BCG..opinions on above?
