H&K G36?

Recommended Posts

I shot one of those out in Georgia a few years ago in semi and full-auto.  It's a nice rifle, but I still prefer the AR platform which has much less recoil and feels more comfortable to me.

I noticed a lot of FA rental ranges have the G36

What most people seem to do is find an HK SL8 and do a conversion to a semi G36. I saw an SL8 at OMG Custom Guns a couple years ago so it definitely seems NJ legal.

Most FA G36's are NFA post samples. I shot one a couple weeks ago and it was sweet.

Due to US Importation laws H&K is unable to import a civilian version of the G36 to US because of the "evil" features it has (pistol grip, >10 round mags, etc, etc). To get around this, H&K created the SL8. The SL8 is based on the G36 but with major differences.

This guy converted his SL8 into a G36 "Clone":

I've seen the SL8 conversions to the G36, but I heard the SL8 wasn't that great

Neither is the G36.

The rental ranges have them because everyone wants to shoot their favorite gun from their favorite favorite video game - Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, etc....

Most of the agencies that had them state side, dumped them when accuracy and reliability issues cropped up whenever the gun got hot.

Germany recently sued HK for selling them crappy guns. The court said yes, they guns are crappy, but they meet and or exceed what you specced for the rifle you solicited and chose. Bottom line - Germany dropped the G36 but HK won the lawsuit.
