Ruger LC9S Trigger vs Glock 43, Shield 9mm

Recommended Posts

I have shot both the 43 and the Shield, watched the Hickok 45 videos, read the specs etc. I also know about the 'Pro' version of the LC9S.

My specific question is about the trigger. If anyone has experience with the LC9S and one or both of the others I'd like to hear about it. I have found reviews that imply the LC9S trigger is better than the other two. Some said significantly better.

Although I didn't shoot it, I did handle a Ruger LC9s Pro today. I shoved a snap cap in and tried the trigger a number of times.

IMO, the trigger is better than the 9mm Shield, and MUCH better than the Glock 43.

Now it's on the buy list.

Just get a shield with apex trigger. Imo a better gun

I'll keep that in mind. I have a Shield 9mm and was not looking to modify a handgun probably used for self-defense purposes.

Hence the factory version.

Have you checked out the Walther PPS? It is worth a look.

Yes, but I have not handled or shot one yet. (We have the PPQs in 9mm, and will get the PPQs 45 sight unseen.) So, it is still on my short list. I have to prospect some more FFLs. Can you compare the PPS to the other three at all?

67GTO (good year!): I looked at the G43 first for exactly that reason. And it's a Glock so I know I can strip, rebuild, repair etc.  But the trigger? Owwwww! OK, it was a rental gun, and maybe a new pistol would be better, or better with break-in. But jeeez, compared to the LC9s out of the box? No way!

More then welcome to shoot my G43...... I do not find the trigger too much different then my G19, but I love my stock G19 trigger....

Shoot a couple thousand rounds out of your Glock and you'll love the trigger. If you can't wait that long get some fine to progressively finer sand papers or a stone and polish it up. I think there great after a bit of smoothing and a set of springs. 8 bucks a couple hours time.

If the LC9S trigger is nice, how is the recoil?  I've heard the LC9 is uncomfortable at best.

Recoil isn't bad. I use the extended magazine butt plate to get better purchase. I carry it with 124 gr. Gold dots and it doesn't feel bad at all. Not as nice as a 1911, but manageable and conceals easier them my DW Eco.

Maybe - I thought the LC9 was pretty similar in comfort.

Nah, LC9 really isn't that bad. It is a light weight gun with a very thin grip, so it isn't as comfortable to shoot as my P0-1 or 92FS, but it certainly isn't like shooting my LCR with 357s. 5 357s and I'm switching to 38+Ps.

LCP is brutal .....  bought it.... Sold it ( shut up Dan) ........

Lol. Agree 100%. Not enjoyable to shoot at all. Sure, it may be intended for close in self protection, but you should practice with your carry gun and that gun is brutal as Troy stated.

Thanx for offering that. I wasn't seriously considering a .380 but it might have come up sooner or later. I've never shot a .380 anything, and I wasn't going to introduce another caliber into the mix.

The LC9s Pro looks very attractive at the moment. And the PPS M2 is also likely.

Thanx for the other opinions as well.

But the LCP serves a purpose.  It's NOT a range gun.  I carry an LCP because it's convenient.

And, unless you carry at every available opportunity when you need a weapon it won't be there.

I don't shoot an LCP for fun.  I shoot it for competency and to potentially save my life when I don't want to carry bigger.

I see the LCR is also available in 9mm. Any thoughts between the 38sp vs 9mm for the lcr?

Need moon clips for 9mm.  You can fire it without 'em but you won't be able to eject them without a pen or something else to pop 'em out.   Also - don't expect the recoil to be like with a semi auto - it will be harsher without the action to take some of the recoil.

I've only fired 9mm compared to 357 Mag in my Ruger Blackhawk convertible. It's been a while since I shot 9 through it, but definitely mild compared to 357. Don't think I compared it to 38sp.
