RobCo 16 Posted September 28, 2016 Got a question for all the M1 Garand experts out there I read in order to use modern .30-06 ammo in an M1 Garand, you need to change the gas plug. Is this the case? thanks
302w 83 Posted September 28, 2016 Not Garand expert, but yes. M1 safe ammo is widely available, I've seen American Eagle M1 ammo on the shelves.

GRIZ 3,369 Posted September 28, 2016 You need to either: 1. Use ammo loaded to M1 safe pressures. Several manufacturers make this. 2. Use an adjustable gas plug.
NJGF 375 Posted September 28, 2016 The CMP also sells ammo for the Garand. The ammo made for the Garand will typically say that on the box. https://media.midwayusa.com/productimages/880x660/Primary/112/112253.jpg
JC_68Westy 1,024 Posted September 28, 2016 I'll submit to you that using a gas plug makes sense for ALL ammo, if your plinking. The gas plug allows you to regulate just enough gas from each time round to cycle actions not hammer it. This is why I would also say that the fal is one reason the FAL is superior to the m1a/14 I agree with using an adjustable gas plug 100%. I use the Schuster plug. It is very easy to use. T Bill 649 Posted September 28, 2016 Get the plug! Nobody likes an over gassed Garand. Takes all the worries out! Op rods don't grow on trees anymore!
Nucrunner 75 Posted September 28, 2016 Check www.garandgear.com - lots of info - and they sell a nice ported gas plug, requires no adjustments. lot's of commercially available Ammo for Garand, there is also the CMP a good source for milsurp Ammo. Plus due to our wonderful laws here in NJ, it has to be Jerseyfied because the FAL is a "black scary gun"
