As to thin rails with covers - my ALG tube with MLOK covers is still slimmer than any of my quad rails without covers. The slim tubes also let me get my thumb up on the top of the tube without rolling my elbow and wrist to get the fatiguing Costa elbow twist.

Just to put it in perspective.  The rail is 10.5oz and the stock is 9.2oz  It is a little heavier in the nose but the purchase is nice in the off hand. Balances about 5" in front of the receiver.

For ME and my use long free float handguards are a must.

 

First, my arms are "medium gorilla" and with 15" hanguards i tend to index my left hand index finger along the handguard touching the just past the end. When shooting off hand and at speed I want my left hand as close to the muzzle as possible for maximum control. Anyone who still holds their rifle by the magwell or close on, needs to take brook stick, hold it by one with both hands and turn off a light switch with the end. Then place one hand half way down and do it again. Plus, hand closer to the muzzle also means more recoil control.

 

Second, 3gun matches nowdays like to put you in a sorts of silly positions to shoot from, including offering you only some bits of chain, boat trailer hitches, rough tree trunks or angled roofs as support while you are trying to make 300-400 yards shots while out of breath and on the clock. I want EVERY bit of handguard I can get so can rest the gun on whatever is available. I have no guarantee that whatever rest is available is going to be just in the sweet spot for my handguard to rest on.

Oh, OK. That's not bad - With a loaded mag your center of gravity will hardly change at all. You can still drive that gun like a boss.
