Ever own a polymer framed gun that appeared not perfect?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Springfield xds 3.3" in 9mm, have not yet shot the gun, but notice the the frame seems a bit bent. If you stand the gun evenly on the grip and look at it dead on from the rear and also from the front, it appears the slide is a little slanted in comparison to the handle. Almost looks like if you were to hold the gun out in front of you and make it so that the top and bottom lines of the slide appear straight, the frame and handle look like they go a little to the right. Nothing major or drastic, but a little offset.

Iv read that on some blocks it's common for the frame to appear slanted or warped and just not overall perfect, however it does not affect accuracy or reliability. I have not yet shot this gun but plan to over the next week or so, but would imagine it is nothing major to affect its shooting accuracy.

Anyone ever own a polymer frame gun that maybe just appeared not as perfect as some more exspensive metal framed guns?

Yes. M&P 45 where the front rail portion of the frame bent down at the tip, so you could see daylight between the top of the frame and the bottom of the slide.

When it was sent back for 'repair', S&W sent back a new frame with a new serial number. And that meant new permit to get it back!

My Springfield Loaded 1911 had an imperfectly machined slide. The imperfection being that the flats... weren't. Set it on a glasstop desk and it would rock.

They're getting churned out as fast as possible, and you probably aren't imagining it. I'm sure it shoots fine, though-- mine sure did.

I don't see it but when I had an issue with my Springfield's slide they made it right, no questions asked.

If the rails are not parallel maybe they can be swapped without needing a new receiver, aka a new pistol permit
