NVG setups

Recommended Posts

Might be a small group on here but curious what kind of NVG setups you guys are running. I recently decided to get another pvs14 and run a dual setup with a bridge mount. Love the added depth perception but found that my helmet mount (norotos AKA2) did not allow the pvs14s to fully fold onto the helmet. I ordered a new mount (wilcox g24) which should fix the issue. G24 puts the units higher up and closer to the helmet when folded.

Alternative is a pvs15 or Sentinel setup but I like the option of running a monocular on either eye and having each qd vs having a traditional bino setup.

My setup:

(2) Omni V ITT PVS14

Mod Armory bridge mount

Norotos AKA2 helmet mount (being replaced with wilcox g24)

Dupont 3A high cut ballistic helmet w/ wilcox universal shroud

Ops Core counterweight

What are you guys running? It's an expensive game to be in and want to know what is working for you guys...

I've got a set of "night vision goggles" from the Prestige edition of Modern Warfare 2, lol

Nah they're not real NVG's.

I got my dad a NVG Monocular for when he's out at night on the boat... will help him find his way back to their lake house...

so at any given time, there is 10 grand on top of your head....thats freaking awesome

If you know where to look and are patient you can put together a setup like this for way less than 10k.

You could probably do it for less than half of that.

Wilcox mount came in today. Much happier with the g24 vs the Norotos AKA2. Wilcox sits much closer to the helmet and when folded it is a much smaller profile.

Shout out to Mod Armory in Colorado Springs. Small company that makes great products and has excellent customer service. If you are looking into NV give them a call and talk to Nicole. She knows the products inside and out and we even went back and forth on pros/cons of different IR lasers when she knew I already owned one that fit my needs.

Pics with the g24.

Looks good, jealous of the dual tube setup and the Wilcox G24 mount. Now you need 2 amber filters and a Phokus/Hoplite on there. The filter and Phokus were the two best things I ever bought for my PVS-14. I am looking at a Wilcox G11 mount next.

I was thinking about a dual 14 like that but $1k for the bridge and $400 for the mount is too much for me.

There are companies out there that you can send two PVS14s to and they will build you a set of Anvis 15s.

What IRAL do you have on your rifle/pistol?

Throw an IR light (Surefire M1, INFORCE WML IR, TNVC Torch etc...) on your helmet.

I'll throw a photo up later.

I have 2 amber filters on the way and decided to go with the matbock tarsier eclipse over the hoplite. They are on their way as well. I also have a surefire IR light for the helmet inbound.

I have the dbal a2/peq15a as my IR laser/illuminator. Same guts as a peq15 but in the more durable metal housing.

The bridge was 550 and you can find the g24 mounts around 250-300 if you are patient. Certainly cheaper than buying a Sentinel or pvs15.

great stuff in this thread. you certainly seem to have a hell of a setup. can you give someone like me some tips to get started with this? i know next to nothing about nvg or helmets but i'm very interested. not looking to spend $10k but i could see myself being patient as you said and building up something fantastic like you have over time. problem is i have no idea how to get started

PVS 14 monocle with Phokus Hoplite and a Wilcox Amber filter on a USGI J-Arm and Norotos Rhino mount. The mount and J-Arm really need to be replaced. Looking hard at the Wilcox G-11 as the replacement. Word on the street is it's the best bang for the buck out there right now.

Surefire M1 IR illuminator and Guardian IR strobe beacon. Both work well for my needs and are affordable.

All on a Battleware helmet with OpsCore counterweight at the rear. MSA Comms setup with SARA Peltor adapters and a Princeton Tec IR admin light.

^ that's awesome HE!

I just saw a brand new G11 for 225 or best offer. Not sure if that's a good price or not on it bc I haven't researched them. If you want the link let me know.

Look into the Norotos dual dovetail adapter as well. If you get that and the G11 you will have a rock solid mount with no wobble anywhere.

While not in the market for a pair on NVG I would still be curious as the the field of view on these things. I would imagine it is limited compared to normal vision. Do you have to make adjustments into how you look at things while wearing them? Like do you have to pan back and fourth in order to see everything? Looks cool!

With single tube setups you lose depth perception.

FOV is small and you can only focus on one thing at a time - near or far. Best practice is to focus on infinity and make small adjustments as needed.

Your head has to be constantly moving to process all the information you are used to getting.

After a few hours in NODs you have a sore neck and a screaming headache. The amber filters help alleviate the headache a bit.

Thanks. That's a good price on the G11. About $40 less than I usually see them.

I don't think the G11 will work with the dovetail. It uses the J-Arm.

I just looked it up and you are right. At least they put a tensioner in it to eliminate the wobble. Still have the wobble from the issue plastic j arm attached to the unit though.

The g11 mount probably eliminates 80% of the slop associated with a issue j arm and rhino mount though.
