Pump 223?

Recommended Posts

Havent picked up a new rifle for a while and am thinking about a pump of which I have none. Dont need another 22  and I like to multi task when i can so a 223/556 pump that uses AR mags leaves the Troy PAR and the Remmy 7615 as far as I know.  Might go bolt with mvp patrol but leaning to a pump. Anyone familiar with the Troy or Rem and have comments pro/con on them?

I got to fire a 7615 for a bit a few years ago. It was accurate. I shot 2" or even a bit less at 100 yds. The down sides were it was difficult to manipulate in the prone. IIRC there is a sliding plate that rides under the bolt. This required you to point the rifle skyward to load a magazine at times. You also had to vigorously pump the action to avoid feeding issues.

It may be the thing for some people. If I had to have a non semi, compact rifle I'd go for a bolt or levee gun.

The Troy PAR is very well built (I have handled the remy) but as Pete stated above,

if you are planning on shooting prone - pumps are more difficult to cycle lying down.

If you don't shoot prone - the Troy is a excellent choice........................

Thats actually pretty kool. And i love my Henry 357 too but its only 5 rnds and I get that a bigger mag may get in the way.. And a detatchable mag- a Henry first?  I dont have a pump so thats where I'm leaning and to be able to use my AR mags too. But yea that Long Ranger is nice and maybe a bit pricy tho I would like to see a 16" brl option.

Thought as much, dont do fbk either... Getting one of these pumps is harder than I thought. They're around but not much. The Rem is a rare bird and expensive, I think they are all going Down Under and from what I can tell are a bitch to takedown. The PAR is a bit more than I was hoping to spend too the model w the folding stock/sights is easily over $1000+tx and the fixed stock one just a few hundred less. I may have been a bit ambitious here for a 'just because" gun and source the $ elsewhere.... But then again....Nothing we all dont go thru  lol
