Beretta history wanted, and new to me 92FS Inox

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I've always liked the Beretta 92 platform.  My first purchase when I got back into the hobby 6 years ago was a 92FS Inox. Bought it on a whim when I saw it in the case at the dealer.  I hadn't done any research on the platform but I just "knew".

What I bought at that time was the two-tone Inox - the one with the black controls.  I  thought it looked good but always thought it would look better all stainless.  I started researching and found out Beretta used to make the all-stainless version, and ever since I've been looking for one that wasn't ridiculously priced.  Well, I finally found one but it is a bit different than I thought so I come to the experts...

I always thought the all-stainless version was made in Italy, but the one I found is stamped "made in the USA".  Does anyone know when these were made?  There is enough difference between the two that I'm sure it's not a case of someone changing the controls. The frame finish on the all-stainless is much brighter than on the two-tone, the roll marks are a different font between them and the grip panels on the all-stainless are thin plastic rather than the thicker rubber.

I think I've rounded out my 92 collection but I guess you never know.

Clockwise from the top:  Wilson Combat 92G Compact, All-stainless Inox, Wilson Combat 92G, Two-tone Inox.

  That is the collection of my dreams. All that's missing is the Fusion…

Inox versions are absolutely produced by the American branch of the company though I have no idea when production first started. In theory they're still being made though finding a 92FS Inox brand new in-stock is an epic quest at this time. I spotted one at GSSC back in April or May of this year and I haven't seen one since.

This is a stainless steel version made in Italy that I purchased in the mid 90's from the Bullet Hole. This is the only Beretta I've ever owned so can't tell you what differences there are between the other models. (Excuse the bad lighting)

I have two Wilson Combat serial numbered 92G and s 92FS that I had redone at Wilson combat that I might like even better because I chose how it was done. I may by the compact because the Wilson guns are spectacular. A few folks here have them and would give them great reviews, hopefully they stop in on this thread. I'd get a WC gun if it's on your list. No regrets.

Nope... nice collection. You're close but you still need the M9 and the M9A3.
