Recommended Posts

Anyone running an MRF FF rail? Its a 2-piece design so i can keep my FSB

Picked up a 12" for my new 20" upper for cheap. Wondering if anyone has experience on these before i chop off the delta ring and get it installed

Perfect - thanks again HE

I agree on the quality.  It's a really nice rail and for a 2-pc free float I couldn't pass this up for $100 shipped brand new from Primary arms.  The interlocking upper/lower portion is a nice twist and it's surprisingly thin.

^ Showing the inside portion - you'll notice interlocking tabs that mate the bottom and upper halves together (machining is done very nicely - fitment is tight).  Very happy with this design

The MRF FF isnt big and bulky at all.  It feels slimmer than my Midwest industries rail on my other build.  Comes with a few anti-rotation QD mounting points and for a basic 2pc FF setup, it's pretty sweet.  The look is outdated, but functionally this should be a winner.

Here it is installed.  Very easy to cut off the delta ring assembly off with my dremel (much faster than I thought), but getting this thing aligned was a pain in the ass for about 10 minutes due to the tight fit of everything.  Once it's situated, it's evident that this rail is solid.  It also has anti-rotation tabs on the top and bottom area mating with the receiver which is a big plus in case you slam it into something.

Here's a pic of the bottom, where (5) screws are used to claimp everything down.

Here's a top view where the rail and receiver join.  I think I got it as centered as best I possibly could.

Overall impressions:

This is my first free-float rail and with the price I paid for this thing, I'm blown away.  It's a very nice piece and especially nice for us in NJ for those that want to keep the FSB and not have to go through the trouble of removing half of your upper receiver.  Installation was relatively easy-going, and I can appreciate the design (although pretty old school).  It's rock solid and barely has any movement at the muzzle end (pushing in all directions).

My only regret is not posting the $100 shipped deal here on the forum when Primary Arms ran their 3 day sale.  It was less than half the price of a comparable 2-piece FF rail.  I was unsure of the quality at the time, but went for it anyway.  Couldn't be happier.

Looks good!

Use an optic mount or other 1913 clamp to center the rail with the receiver.

I use and old Aimpoint Pro QRP mount I have lying around and bridge the gap between the 2 rail sections before tightening everything down.

Wait for Black Friday - PA, DSG, SKD, Midway, Brownells, etc... will have great sales.

Thanks dude!

I used a USGI carry handle to center up the rail to the receiver since the base of it is completely flat and runs longer for more surface contact.  It felt better than using my QRP mount, although there probably isn't any difference between the two

Now just a few more days till my vortex strike eagle and aero precision ultralight mount comes in and it'll be finished.  The weight isn't TOO bad... but that might change with the strike eagle... I really hope not...
