Gun lock in trunk?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, so looking over the NJ transportation laws and was wondering if it would be legal to put in an electronic gun lock in my trunk and put a firearm in it (unloaded and what not) and transport it.
I drive a retired CVPI so I have a BigSky ELS270 I took off from the cage when I stripped my car out and didn't want to throw it away because its money and thought of mounting it inside my trunk and having a secure way of locking an AR in my trunk.  As most of you LEOs know it would be activated by a timed switch located upfront.
Would that be NJ legal or does it need to be cased?
Just kinda wanted to use something I had left and also add another bit of security when transporting a firearm in case someone gets into my trunk.

Someone as in a trying to steal or someone as in LEO ?

If I understand this correctly, you want to go beyond whats required by law. Why would that be NOT legal ?

More like prevent someone from stealing it, not worried about LEOs.  And I never know with NJ what may suddenly become illegal

Yes very, very cheap.  2009 with 80k miles on, did have around 7400 idle hrs on it but no mechanical issues.  Needed new tires which I was able to swap with some brand new tires we had around for cheap as well.  Runs good and drives fine.  Gonna keep it until I manage to blow it up somehow.
