orangesolo 26 Posted November 30, 2016 Is there anything that says that I can't have a firearm in a locked case with me while i'm in the woods somewhere, pop it out, take a professional photo & then put it back in the case & lock it? I've always been into photography but have never ventured outdoors with my firearm because of legal repercussions that may exist which I don't know about. Last but not least, no. I would not be open carrying. Like I said, trek with it in a case, find a spot, open it for a few minutes to angle it (as in lay it against a tree or in a stream or something, not aim it down range) and make it look nice, take a few pics, put it back in case and head home. I know NJ has some crazy up the wazoo laws so if what i'm saying is illegal, don't bash me, i'd just like to know. Or if anyone in North Jersey has a bit/quite a bit of land and wouldn't mind me there, let me know also
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted November 30, 2016 Handgun? Not an exempted location - unless you are on a range. Long gun? Have your FPID? Have at it.
orangesolo 26 Posted November 30, 2016 Damn handguns... Can I bring an unloaded magazine with my long gun & pop it in when I get to the spot?
Smokin .50 1,907 Posted November 30, 2016 ^^^Bob's short answer is almost 100% correct. So you wanna play photographer, eh? Know any "kitchen table" FFL's or repair shops that could appraise your photogenic, rare hand gun that the world has never seen before, and do said appraisal in their HUGE and neighbor-less backyard, lol? Last I checked, getting an appraisal or inquiring about what a consignment would net you is still covered as an EXEMPT location.......... So find yerself a photo-friendly FFL and offer a transfer fee's worth of pizza for lunch in exchange for the "appraisal".... Instead of bitchin' about how much something costs local as compared to buying it online . There's more than one way to skin a cat kid! And FWIW there's more than one location in North Jersey that has an outdoor range. So ask around, make friends, join an outdoor range and you now HAVE your exempt location. Just don't break any range rules doing your photography (still life pix of hand guns w/ muzzles pointed DOWN RANGE tend to NOT break range rules). F-8 and BE THERE kid, lol! And put the camera in manual and bracket your exposures . Rosey

Cereza 106 Posted December 1, 2016 I only know of one outdoor range and thats the ANJRPC Highland Lakes location. What are the others? CJRCP and one half of OBRPC are outdoors.
bhunted 887 Posted December 1, 2016 With any of them, especially CR, you better get permission. They get their panties in a knot if you forget your chamber flag, let alone posing guns in the woods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RecessedFilter 222 Posted December 1, 2016 I'd ask friends with some property for photo ops before I'd ask anyone else.
Smokin .50 1,907 Posted December 1, 2016 I only know of one outdoor range and thats the ANJRPC Highland Lakes location. What are the others? Check-out the ANJRPC web site for member clubs ( http://www.anjrpc.org ). Or pick-up a copy of News & Briefs (ANJRPC bi-monthly newsletter) at almost any gun range, club, gun store, etc. Look under "Places to Shoot" as well as "Member Clubs" and you'll have a great many to investigate all over NJ. Your avatar says you go to GFH. Anthony is the Exec. VP of ANJRPC. There's always a case floating around the waiting area .

Respect is a 2-way street. You wanna take some photos? Get permission, get supervision, offer copies to the club! Do unto others. THEN ask for your "favor"....... OR go to a kitchen-table FFL or gunsmith and ask if they'd consider helping you out.

LOL, yeah, ME! Perhaps I ought to guest you into OBRPC? It's NOT in Sussex County, so thereby doesn't meet your parameter of a "Club in North Jersey". So does that make it a deal-breaker? I'm a former Board of Trustees member and currently a NRA CRSO and the Discipline Chair for our Police Practical Competition (PPC) League, an IDPA and USPSA action competitor (when the time away from CNJFO permits), so I know a little something about the rules, lol. I also used to own a Photography Studio, so I know the tricks of the trade. Need a tripod? A reflector? A gobo? Old Bridge has very active Leagues that have their own web sites and Facebook pages, so they don't really have a use for your photography. There may be other private clubs that need help with PR. Using the News and Briefs idea will yield results to answer that question. There may be others here willing to help that live closer to you, so see who else offers their assistance. Joining a private club opens doors and answers questions the likes of which you can't possibly imagine . Stay in-touch! Rosey

I'll have to find someone to befriend closer to me
