Looking for someone in the 3-D printing business ...

Recommended Posts

... who can take my needed part and scan it to create a 3-D file, then 3-D print it out of an IR-mostly-transparent plastic material.

The final part size is 1"x1.5"x0.04" thick

The part was originally injection molded but the drawings and mold are gone as the manufacturer went out of business about 10 years ago.

Looking for a quantity in the low thousands.

Please PM me if you can do this, or know of anyone who can.

Thanks,

Brian

There are several issues you're going to run into and what you're asking for isn't something that you're going to find from a 3d printing shop.

The material is first.  I have an older printer and the material is specific.  There are newer machines that run with different items, but to get what you're asking for is mostly laboratory type stuff, not commercial machines.  I'm not saying it doesn't exist, it may, you're going to have trouble finding it.

Next is print time.   Even the fastest machine may take several minutes per piece.

Finally, resolution is also an issue, your material is pretty thin and the common machines have a resolution less than that.

I know you didn't ask for it, but my advice is to find the material you want and have it die cut.

If there is any profile besides flat, this has to be cnc machined but guess what, anything with an optical function will require special surface work. With that quantity and detail, you need an injection mold. A small one would cover the part cost. Especially if it is convex blah blah blah
