If you want Milsurps go to the upcoming Forks Show not Oaks.

As for Milsurps there are more than I have time to list.

Since you are starting with WWII rifles how about getting one from each major participant.

Germany

K98k Mauser also many other Mauser and Mannlicher variants.

G43 or K43

France

MAS-36

Later the MAS 49/56 in between 44, 45, 49, and 36/51.

Italy

Carcano

Russia

Since you have the bolt add the Semi SVT-40

Finland

Finnish Mosins such as M/39 and my favorite M/28-30

UK

Enfield No1Mk3 and No4Mk1

Japan

Arisaka T38 and T99

US

Since you have the Semi add a 1903 Springfield or 03A3

Sweden & Switzerland were neutral but still had home defense

Swedish AG42B for a semi

Swiss K31 for a bolt also the K11

Post WWII

FN-49 is one of my personal favorites Lux & Colombian are .30-06, Venezulean 7mm Mauser, Egypt 8mm Mauser, Argentine 7.65mm Mauser and converted .308

For bolts there are tons of Mausers from all over the world

For Semis SKS (many nations) and Egyptian Hakim and Rasheed to name a few.

If you like the AK and SKS there is also the Czech vz52 in 7.62x45mm. I have one for sale now with ammo.

If you go back even further to WWI and pre WWI there are even more. The Mosin is really a Pre WWI rifle. The French made some cool rifles such as the Gras, Berthier, and Lebel. Also lots of Mausers and Mannlichers.

As far as I am concerned they are all fun to shoot except the Mosin, Mannlicher, and Lebel Carbines. Their fun in they make a heck of a fireball but they kick like a mule. Surprisingly the Carcano Carbine even in 7.35 doesn't kick hardly at all.

Add in a Steyr M1895 Straight pull. Great rifle that can be had on the cheep. Potent round and straight pull action keep it interesting. Also the K31 Swiss straight pull. Many, many to choose from. G43, M35, AK, AR, Arisaka 38,44,& 99, etc...Then you can start adding variants or special purpose models like folder and tanker models.

Went to Oaks today, found a Type I Carcano... caught my eye because it is 6.5mm Japanese.

Was only $149. The guy I bought it from had a few Arisaka rifles, but were a little out of my price range ($400+). The 6.5mm always interested me.

Reason it was priced like that was because he said he added a recoil pad. Think it was more because a couple inches of barrel and forend was missing (cleaning rod hole and no bayonet lug was a dead giveaway). [emoji23] For about what a Mosin Nagant used to go for, it is a nice odd rifle... even though it isn't "correct." It will be a nice light rifle, in case someone recoil shy wants to shoot. Got to get some Japanese stripper clips, though.

In case anyone else was interested, there were other surplus guns. A few Garands... anywhere from $1,100 and up. Cheapest Mosins were $250ish (saw some with "matching bayonets," but didn't look closer)... and there was a guy by the food window selling "cleaned" rifles (saw him another time with similar snipers at a price that I spun right around from). Got contact high from the stain. Looked at a few because of the receiver dates (mid 1920s; hex receivers), and saw a 91/59 that I really liked. Way over what my M38 was (had one there for $150 more than my $300 one)... and gave me a headache because of the odor.

A few other odd/ends were on the racks spread through the two rooms. Saw a few Swiss rifles, but nothing that made me wish I picked it up.
