FN-49 Family So Far

Recommended Posts

I bought a Century Built Egyptian Eagle of Saladin Sniper in 8mm Mauser about a year ago. It is the one in the middle. It is surprisingly well made compared to most of them. It has the cheek piece, two piece firing pin, FPSS, and brass butt plate under the rubber recoil pad. Also has original Echo Military Mount and Rings with a Russian VOMZ Scope. I've always enjoyed shooting it.

Last month I bought my second FN-49 a matching Colombian .30-06 with a replacement stock. That got me hooked. Last week I added the FN-49 Bible written by Wayne Johnson as well as all matching Argentine .308, Venezuelan 7x57, and Lux .30-06. In addition I got an original Type 2 Belgian FN-49 Oip Abl Scope with original box and scope cover.

In addition to being a well made accurate rifle the FN-49, like the SKS, avoids having to deal with NJ Evil Feature test because the magazine isn't detachable except for the Argentine Navy .308 conversions. However most of them were brought in during the federal assault weapons ban and only have one "evil" feature that being a bayonet lug. The thread protector was pinned and welded for import. The magazines are 20 rounds so they have to be neutered to 15. My Argentine is without the magazine in the pic. Hopefully remixer has it finished as promised tomorrow.

Still looking for a matching Egyptian in 8mm preferably with numbered stock and two piece firing pin. Then it is on to the really hard to find ones. Original Argentine in 7.65mm Mauser, Belgian, Brazilian, Indonesian, and Belgian Congo all in .30-06. If anyone has one the ones I'm looking for to sell please PM me. Also if anyone has their own FN-49 please feel free to post them.

Good luck finding those, you'll probably find the holy grail sitting on top of them when you do.......

Nice collection though - I have a Lux, Egyptian, and Venezuelan myself, can't have too many.....

I have a matching 1908 Uruguay Mauser. So anything is possible lol. I know what you mean I've only seen a handful of Belgians, two original Argentines, one each of the Brazilian and Indonesian and no Congos in the wild. Below is my 1908 Uruguay.

Thank you. That one took some time to find. The reason we rarely see them is Franconia, which is the Century of Germany, bought up almost all of the German Made Surplus Mausers from Uruguay. Rumor is Franconia recently signed a deal with Argentina for 10,000 of their Surplus Mausers. Many of them will be 1891 with the Crest still in tact.

I love the fn49. Never fired one, but the things I've read and seen just really make me interested in them. I'd love to get my hands on one, but despite all the gun shows I go to, I've only ever seen the barrel to one--I've seen more G43s out in the wild.

Nice collection though, definitely an underappreciated rifle, shame they didn't have them developed in time for ww2
