Looking for a New Dog

Recommended Posts

This is my problem with shelters. They want to basically do a full background check, make sure your home is up to their "standards" then charge you $250-$350 on top of that to "adopt" one of their puppies they are planning on putting down in 2 weeks or w/e. I get the old tired responses of, they have to make money and need to make sure it goes to a good home so it doesn't end up there etc etc etc.

As a shelter you spent that money already, as a shelter you're going to pay to put it down, as a shelter you should WANT to see that dog live, as a shelter you should let someone adopt it for $50 or w/e that person can afford to make sure this dog will live out the rest of it's life happy. Not set so many requirements that the shelter is over run with animals they have to put them down cause they have no choice..

And I don't even like dogs....for fuck's sake. Give me one for $50 that will protect my family I'd take one and feed him and make sure he/she is healthy....charge me $250+ and make me go through a fucking interview...you can piss off.

People take almost anything if its free. And no dog is free, no matter what people tell you. There are monthly feed expenses and then vaccinations / vet bills almost every year.

When we got a dog, the adoption cost came to about $400. I wondered but then realized it included the spay/neutering, first set of vaccinations, doc checked her out etc.

And when I was a teenager, we found an abandoned puppy, got her home, got the vet checked out, shots, etc.... it wasnt free either.

Screw that crap. I'll kill a dog for less than that. Last dog I got was like $20 and it was vaccinated and I got a coupon for the neutering.

was a loaf of bread a nickel back then too? The low cost spay/neuter vouchers are 50 bucks now at least in NJ. The average dog adoption is about 150-200 bucks. When a stray dog is found it has to be held for 7 days to allow the owner to claim the dog. After that is a vet wellness check, behavioral test and then placed out for adoption. Once someone wants to adopt the dog it is spayed or neutered. All that costs allot more than 20 bucks. 200 is a bargain if you ask me.

Our 18 year old German Shepard/beagle that was found in a Newark warehouse cost nothing to get but I can assure you in 18 years she ran our family a pretty penny. Our two current shelter dogs came from in my opinion great shelters(St. Huberts and Home for Good) neither did a background check and didn't cost more then 300. That money DOES go to a good cause if you give it to the right place

Problem solved. Offer a healthy dog that fits Op criteria for $30 and keep the change.  And don't forget to include the vaccinations and neutering too.

I will take one too, and you would have made $20 by then.

BTW, on disposing, I didn't know you were such as bad-a**. Congratulations man.

BTW, on disposing, I will do it for 50% of your fee. Then there is bulk discount.

I don't get off the couch for less than $1000, so you go ahead :) But I am still not getting ripped off on a pound dog.

I'm going to shoot my buddy's dog for free, though, I can tell you that. That dog eats bear shit, deer shit, dog shit, dead animals, rolls in shit, then eats it, then shits it and rolls in it. I stepped in that dog's shit and it was green, greasy, and sticky. It smelled just about as bad as anything I smelled. And the dog was standing there looking at me as happy as could be, like he was proud of it or something. I told my buddy when the time comes give me a call. I like that dog but I will get a sick satisfaction when I get the chance to blow it away.

I rescued a free dog once. While I doing animal control I found a dachshund on the street. No one claimed him and the wife talked me into adopting him, "Luger". He was already neutered and the holding facility dident charge me. So he really was a "free dog" Kept him for a week to make sure he got along with our other dachshund. At the end of the week I took him in to my vet for a full wellness check and a microchip. Then went to the pet store and got a collar, harness, and name tag. About 200 bucks for just that. Then the blood work came back positive for Lyme's so that means monitoring every 6 months and antibiotics more often than not. The "free dog" cost a hell of allot. Oh well dogs are worth it.

You don't have to get off the couch. Just guide the Op and I where to get the healthy dog, vaccinations and neutering coupon all for $20 and I will give you $20. Chicken out ?

I have "family & friends" discount too. Then there is "just-that-satisfaction" discount.  You are not the lone and special snowflake.
