Example of heavily taxed but pro 2A state ?

Recommended Posts

To the OP

WHY?

I am debating if 2A situation in states like NJ can ever be improved (without SCOTUS suddenly waking up), without reigning in taxes and addressing amount of money that goes around in social programs. Social programs that fund certain mindset that result in more crime, more politicians that gets attracted to power and control.

i don't think vermont or new hampshire belong on that list. new hampshire doesn't even have an income tax

NH has outrageous property taxes but it's listed as a low tax state.

See the map. You can put your cursor above the states. From what I can see there's no real pattern. Maine is constitutional carry but high tax. Most states are shall-issue; some are low-tax, some high-tax.

That is correct VT and NH are both listed as low tax States, but let's face it most gun collectors I would guess are homeowners and property tax is one of the hardest hitting state taxes in places like VT, NH, and NJ. PA, OH, and NE are all listed in the top 10 worst state for taxes by multiple lists. Regardless gun laws and taxes seem to have no correlation.

Another way to look at this, particularly if you're rounding the bend like me, is which states impose the lowest tax burden on retirees? AFAIK none in the northeast even though NJ is the only one that does not issue carry permits.

It's difficult to correlate any of this with gun laws. 44 states are shall-issue (if you include Connecticut), 3 are limited issue. Yet most are high-tax. I keep telling you guys that, NJ notwithstanding, guns have been the only bright spot during the last 30 years w/ respect to rights.

Why not cut out the middleman and look up which states have the highest reliance on these social programs? Most programs include federal funding so if it's the programs that are the problem, state taxes aren't the best indicator.

It took me all of 1 minute to find a recent article listing DC, Mississippi, New Mexico, West Virginia, Oregon, Tennessee and Louisiana as having the highest percentage of residents on food stamps. All in excess of 18%.

Personally, I think you're wasting your time. The problem is with the "Haves," not the "Have-nots." Go take a look at a list of states by affluence. Maryland, New Jersey, California, Connecticut, DC and Massachusetts are the top of the list, all very blue and among the worst when it comes to 2A. The cities are only part of the problem, we just don't have the trailer parks to balance it out.

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
    • I get the added benefit that since I have a TSP rather than a true 401(k) they tax my retirement too. Yaaaay!
