Just as the tile says, has any none dealer/FFL purchased firearms from the auction? If so online? In person? Is it worth it or am I up against dealers trying to grab everything up?

You are up against dealers in every auction. I was recently in an auction with over 40 Finnish Rifles. Mostly sold in lots of 3. If I was there in person I would have bought at least 9 rifles. I phone bid and got the 3 best rifles way below cost. A friend bought 15 rifles but he was there in person and previewed them the day before. I found out about the auction the day of it.

 

My suggestion preview in person.

 

Phone bid or bid in person.

 

Write a formula that includes buyers premium so you can quickly figure out the true cost.

 

Ex. 1.20x + 40. Where the buyers premium is 20% and x is the bid and 40 is the transfer.

 

Know your prices.

 

Set a limit.

I tried to buy at their last auction. I was not there in person. I was doing it in on line. I was only interested in a couple items. The first one the price went higher then I wanted to spend. Second item I was bidding up and screen said I was high bidder. Next thing I know screen says I lost bid. I questioned what happened both in email and here. I was told my bid came in at same time as one from the floor, auctioneer chose to sell it on floor. I would have bid higher. This tells me if your not there don't waste your time.

It's not dealers you need to really worry about, dealers want to buy below market price so they can make a profit. Rather, it's private buyers with a pocket full of cash and little self control or little knowledge about what they are buying that usually drive prices up. With online buying and auctions becoming more popular in general, auction prices are generally high these days. I have heard many dealers say they don't bother so much with auctions any more because prices are too high for them to make any money.
