gunnarsport 13 Posted April 14, 2017 I applied for a permit in mid Feb. In the past, Robbinsville Twp was always be super fast turning around permits, typically 2-3 weeks. Well, its been 8 weeks now and still no permit! After 4 weeks, I emailed the Detective who promptly responded..."still going through the process, should be soon." That was 4 weeks ago. BobA 1,235 Posted April 16, 2017 Excuse is software update at SP Zeke, how good is the info on this "excuse"? I too have been waiting too long with the State Police. A different Barracks last year came across by now.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted April 16, 2017 There is no excuse. They are just sitting on it. Maybe lack of manpower or other more important stuff to do. But. There is no excuse.
Rob0115 1,105 Posted April 16, 2017 I'm waiting four weeks in Montville. I never wait more than two.
Mrs. Peel 7,148 Posted April 16, 2017 Zeke, how good is the info on this "excuse"? I too have been waiting too long with the State Police. A different Barracks last year came across by now. BobA... there's a similar thread going on this, here: http://www.njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/85875-new-software-slowing-down-permits-at-njsp/?hl=%2Bsoftware+%2Bnjsp It was started because I had been told by my NJSP barracks (Perryville) that there was some "new software" slowing things down just recently in Trenton. One of the other posters who called into Trenton a few weeks later also heard mention of "new software" by the person he spoke with. Later, I called Trenton and was told by someone else there that there were unveiling a lot of process changes (perhaps new software was one of them?). Long story short, it seems like they're planning to have a better, faster process in place (the state police that is), by the beginning of NEXT year... but until that time there will be changes o'plenty and those changes may slow things down now and again. Not sure how that impacts other police departments, if it does at all. The one thing I've been able to figure out is there is ZERO consistency in the ways these are done around the state. For example, some depts. check ref's by phone, some mail the forms, others apparently don't do them at all. That's ridiculous.
45Doll 5,848 Posted April 16, 2017 As long as there's only ONE secretary typing permits (at least for all northern NJ), unless their 'new software' automatically spits out the printed permits nothing is going to improve. And by the beginning of NEXT year, the new Democrat governor will be passing so many anti-gun bills permit delays will be the least of your problems. Or perhaps they won't have to issue ANY permits. That'll go really quick! NO!

For example, some depts. check ref's by phone, some mail the forms, others apparently don't do them at all. That's ridiculous. Which leads me to my next question: Last year I sailed through at the Somerville Baracks. The web site said I could use the nearest Barracks and that was nearest to my work. This year they refused sending me to Kingswood Barracks. Not exactly around the corner. Since they require all things to be done during business hours, it costs me work time. Their answer to that was if you don't have the time you shouldn't have applied. So, does anyone know of a Barracks that will take any NJ resident that does not have a police department? I'd rather drive twice as far and get it sooner and with some semblance of respect and not looked at as if I'm from ISIS.
Tony13 59 Posted April 20, 2017 I'm coming up on 4 months thru the SP. Called a few weeks back on the status of my pp and was told it usually takes at least 3 months. I'm going to call again the start of next month.
Rob0115 1,105 Posted April 21, 2017 Montville finished my permits today. Just checking the calendar I was mistaken. It's only a couple days longer than normal.
