This doesn't sound like good news. Gun rights stalled for the year?

I already admitted to being a newcomer. I joined this forum to listen and learn how to be a responsible owner of firearms. Forgive me if my terms aren't correct. My opinion is that of you are to own a gun(s) some sort of safety class or responsible ownership course, should be mandatory at least. My reference to the 80 percent lower was t about an AR but rather a handgun. You can buy the whole gun and assemble it yourself but there is no background check involved, no registration or serial numbers. Any and everyone can buy one, and no matter what political views you have, that shit scares me.

You can come up with a lot of scary scenarios and talk yourself out of anything. A few things that will never change:

1. Having a gun and not needing it is better than not having a gun and needing it. Can come up with plenty of scary scenarios because this statement is objectively true. NJ has impossible carry laws. This scares me.

2. You can make all the rules you want, but those rules will not get followed by the people in all the scary scenarios you come up with. It'll just make it harder for you, me, and everyone else who actually follows the rules. This scares me.

And every night I watch the news in NJ, there's some crazy person who does something horrible to an innocent, unsuspecting person who was just going about their daily routine living their daily life. This scares the f&@k out of me.

All we can do is hope that none of us or our loved ones are the targets of these random acts of violence. I'm not trying to say anything negative about law enforcement, but we can't carry a cop around with us.

I'm curious Sackballions, what is the genesis of the idea that the government must know everything about who has what guns?

What is it that you think this solves?   This isn't TV "We found a gun, it's registered to "S Holmes, 221B  Baker Street".

In every case where governments installed these huge databases tracking every gun, they were useless in solving crime.  Also, ballistic profiling of firearms is fairly useless as it changes over time and it is almost never conclusive.

This tracking and checking however is PERFECT when a person or group falls out of favor and the government wants to disarm them.  The government jack boots show up, point their guns, shoot the dog and confiscate the guns.

You mention that you lived in Georgia and yet it scares you the people can pass guns back and forth with no government tracking?   There are no checks there for private sales, never has been.  In fact, most of the country is that way.   NJ, NY, MD, CA are the exceptions.   Overlay a map with gun regulation and crime...more regulation, more crime.  they line up almost perfectly.

I understand you want to learn to be safe and navigate the byzantine gun laws in NJ, and for that you're in the right place.  You'll find however that states with less gun regulation are generally more safe and they also don't ensnare law abiding citizens in a crushing legal system.

Yes anyone can buy an 80% handgun but it's illegal to complete the other 20%in NJ. Anyone can buy steel and all the tools to build any gun they want. I could make something fire 12g shell's at home depot in 15 minutes. Point is laws don't do shit. You can make all the laws you want and bad people are still going to have guns, only difference is now your laws have created victims out of all the law abiding people. So when you lived in other states where hand guns can be bought and sold freely was there blood running in the streets? Was the gun violence in that state more or less than NJ? Hate to break it to you but according to the CDC law-abiding citizens who carry guns prevent crime just as much as the police.

With that all out of the way, if your really not a troll you must answer one very serious question...........................do you call it Porkroll or Taylor ham?

Wtf is Taylor ham? Lol. I get your point, and actually philly was the murder capital for a good while on the 2000's. And decent citizens are afraid to walk around Chicago. In Georgia, there's still a law o the books for one of the towns that you have to own a gun. As a owner I'm just thinking proper handling, or safety classes of some sort should be mandatory, so even when the crazy people with illegal guns try to harm, you can hopefully have some training on how to protect yourself while not harming unintended people, including yourself.

Mandations (aka restrictions) placed by the government on a birthright is never a good idea. Do you really trust the government to look out of YOUR best interests? I'll agree that anyone who carries a gun for self defense should be able to qualify just as the police do but I belive that if your not a prohibited person then you should be able to have whatever firearm you want and buy and sell them just as any other tool.

The problem with 'mandatory' is that it can be used as a tool for exclusion or prohibition.  Look at voting and planned parenthood/abortions as examples.

I agree that everyone who owns a gun should be proficient and trained. Instead of mandatory classes the government could incentivize it.  Similar to Defensive Driving. Take a class and get %%off your homeowners insurance.

Also, if the government was interested in training and education for safety purposes then they would be advocates of firearm safety/education in the classroom. Something they've fought.

Handguns can be sold privately in NJ the same as long guns.  You need to have a FPID and P2P.

You only need the PtPP. FPID is not required to take possession of a handgun. You do need some kind of ID too to prove you are the person named :/ the PtPP.

How do you get the p2p without an FPID?  I believe the FPID number is on the p2p.  When purchasing the fpid number is filled in as well.

The form you fill in for them has check boxes. If you don't check the box for a FPID they won't generate one for you.

The number assigned is your SBI number. It is your number in the State Bureau of Investigation. You get a number in that database if you have any background check done, e.g. For working with kids.
